What the club says: High Throston is in a great location, with fantastic views over the Tees Bay and Cleveland Hills. Whilst far from the easist course, it is not the most challenging course, making it a great test for all level of golfer.

Absolute rubbish, been playing for 20 years and this is by far the worst course ive ever played. The greens have no sprinkler system, so have not been watered this year. Garbage, and £30 on a weekend.Reviewer Rating

Appalling
Absolutely disgraceful conditions on the course. Before I even get to the greens a word on tee boxes, fairways and bunkers. Tee boxes are uneven and not cut so like teeing up in the rough. Fairways have no definition to the rough and only one cut in the rough anyway. Bunkers have no rakes in most and where they do, they’re full of weeds and snapped rakes. Greens have 4/5 different types of grass/weed on them and it’s like putting on a fairway-a poor fairway at that. Again, there isn’t any definition from Green to fringe and the flags lean (always) on every hole as they’re the incorrect size for the holes. £25 on a weekend is ridiculous £20 Mon-Fri also. Keep your money and go on a local field. RubbishReviewer Rating

Like a Patchwork Quilt
Not been to this course for 3 years, but decided to give it a go today, BOY do I wish I saved my money. The whole course was scruffy, every fairway and green was a patch work, after 5 holes, I was so dissapointed, I left. Save your money, travel to Wynyard, Stokesley, MIddlesbororugh or Saltburn, they are one hundred times better than the state of this course.Reviewer Rating

improving all the time
since new management it has come on leaps an dbounds. Yes a couple of months ago the greens got worse, but that was because it was the start of the greens being looked after and revived and they had to get worse before they get better. They now have around 3 groundsmen including a qualified greenkeeper. the greens have been hollowtined and sanded and they are improving all the time. yes they aren't the fastest or undulating of greens but they are a lot better than they have been. They have a bar and food available now as well as a great Teaching pro with a simulator on site now. its going from strength to strength and a great course for the price.Reviewer Rating

Needs some TLC
Having not played at Throston for a number of years, I was interested to see the course after reading some mixed reviews. I was not aware that the course was under new management or the reasons why it seems to have been neglected. It was clear to see groundsmen working around the course, watering greens etc however there are a number of priority areas that need attention. Some of the greens were patchy, others had mushrooms and dandelions on them. Fairways probably just need a lot of water on them together with weedkiller. Yardage markers on the fairways were non existent. Bunkers need topping up with sand rather than the granular stuff that is in them. The concrete tee boxes showing hole numbers, yardage etc probably all need replacing. I have a lot of sympathy for whoever the new owner is as there are so many improvements to make I guess it is a question of priorities as to where to start. I understand there are plans to put in a bar which the club has never has but I would hope the course is improved first before this happens.£20 a round was probably a bit pricey considering the condition. It was clear to see the efforts being made , I will probably play the course again if only to see the improvements first hand.Reviewer Rating

Used to here here all the time- a while back now However was the first time back today and unfortunately it doesn't look like it's getting looked after. Tee areas where scuffed and also cans of stella on nearly every hole and tee box. Greens where patchy and rather long with mud bubbles all over and also the bunkers where just hard sand like concrete ( never ended up in a bunker tho) it's such a shame because it does have potential to be good however I shall not be returning for the foreseeable until it gets better.Reviewer Rating

Great Course
haven't played the course for a couple of years, played today due to the booking nightmare for members at George Washington at the moment, and it was nice to be back. Course not in quite as good condition as I remember on the front nine, but back nine was great. Great course, good value, friendly and excellent views.(Round played: Aug 2020 - Score: 79 Handicap: 11.4)
