Hever Castle Golf Club

Hever Castle Golf ClubThe setting alone is inspiration enough at Hever Castle’s 250 acre 27 hole course. Hever Castle, the childhood home of Anne Boleyn, dates back to 1270. In 1903 William Waldorf Astor acquired the Castle and gradually added to the estate. In the 1920s the Astors created a nine hole golf course for their personal enjoyment, set around the Hever Castle lake and land to the north of Hever Castle, which survived until the Second World War when it was sadly abandoned.

Golf course review of Hever Castle Golf Club

Surprisingly nice course with lovely holes around Hever's own Anen Corner. Only real let down was use of the winter tees throughout as it meant the course was not being played as it should be. Ground was little soft underfoot and the greens had recently seen some work so they were a little inconsistent. Oh and there was no food in the clubhouse as we came in after a cold uncompleted round. At this time of year I can understand having a reduced kitchen but nothing but crisps was but dissapointing. Looking forward to going back in the Spring and playing 11-13 as they were meant to be played.

Golf course review of Hever Castle Golf Club

Attractive course, with some good holes with water in play. In good condition, with pretty fast greens. It gets better and harder as the round progresses, with 4 of the final 5 holes playing relatively long and difficult. The par 5 17th is 613 yards off the yellow tees, so that it would be three pretty good hits to reach the green in regulation if it were straight, but also it has a dogleg in it, so you need to find a the corner of the dogleg off the tee, and it's a good 230 yds to the corner.

Golf course review of Hever Castle Golf Club

Course is challenging.
Pro shop staff very polite, helpfull and professional.
Changing facilities very good.
They have a hole just like the 12th at Atlanta.
Some players/members very pompous and arrogant.
Bar and Restaurant staff slow, in-attentive, lack manners and serve people they know before others in the queue.

Golf course review of Hever Castle Golf Club

a course i never played before. so when a friend said he was playing there as a birthday venue(we play one every year) i took the day off from work. it was very wet a lot of water laying on the fairways.(but a prettier course i have yet to play)the hole place looked like i would have to talk with a plum in my mouth (mistake)all where down to earth(staff)the course was in good condition (surprising seeing the amount of rain)and had the best round of golf for a long time.i for one will deffinatly play again cant wait for the summer to play this course and will surtainly have my society there (60 players)prices were very good (even the bar)plenty of room club house/carpark. no one rushing around.a good day had by all(9) nine of us

Golf course review of Hever Castle Golf Club

I'm a member here and can't say enough good things about the course. We first played the course in April 2009, and decided to join up the following day. The facilities are very good here, with a large putting green, a very large chipping/bunker green and a driving range. The clubhouse is attached to a hotel, and are Tudor buildings that were once the farm buildings for Hever Castle, childhood home of Anne Bolyn. The club shop is large and well stocked and the staff very friendly and well informed. Although the club has a very up-market feel, it does not have a snooty aura. The course itself is very challenging, and is difficult for a high-handicapper to score around. You have to make your score on the front nine and try to hang in there on the back nine. The main reason for difficulty of scoring is the presence of water on ten of the holes, so poor shots are penalised heavily. Having said that, the course is beautifully kept and the greens are a real joy to play on. It is a scenic course and even when you are playing poorly, you can't help but look around and feel happy to be there. There are two sections of the course which really light up the day. The 11th/12th/13th is a water-strewn stretch of golfing heaven modelled on Amen Corner at Augusta, it is a thrilling, but difficult stretch. Then the 15th/16th/17th holes are completely different in character - very long, open and linksy, and are the toughest stretch on the course. The course comes highly recommended and I'm always being pestered by my low-handicapper mates for a guest green fee. It is a low-handicapper's course, but any golfer would have a memorable round here. There is a nine-hole course here too, which also has a lot of water (on four holes), but it is shorter and more playable for beginners.

Golf course review of Hever Castle Golf Club

A beautiful course; well laid out and a stiff challenge of golf. Some of the holes (esp the 17th) can prove very long for the high handicapper but for the lower handicapper this course is a real joy. Some really picturesque hols that require a lot of thought. Do not expect to take the driver off every par 4!
