We played 18 holes on the Red Course, followed by 9 holes on the Blue Course. The Green Course on the day was having considerable greenkeeper work being carried out. The Red Course was in good condition, well maintained, although it looked like a herd of deer had been around, and some of their number had been through some of the bunkers. Having visited a couple of bunkers, they were well stocked with sand, which was quite heavy, but if you played the shot properly, the sand was consistent. Greens had quite a few tricky slopes, and the pin positions seemed to be well chosen, with probably 6 easy, 6 medium and 6 hard. The most notable thing I found was that hole to hole, the direction changed regularly, so it was hard to get used to the wind, as we didn't play two holes in a row where it was helping or hindering, from left or from right! This certainly added to the challenge of a fairly long course.
The greens were a very consistent pace, although one of our members said they were slower than when he visited in October 2016, but they were good for the time of year (March). Tees and fairways were very well maintained.
In the clubhouse, the staff were very friendly, with the new director of golf coming to welcome out party before we had lunch. The catering staff themselves had been on hand from our bacon rolls at 7.30, all the way through lunch and then afternoon tea. We originally had a 2 hour + gap for lunch, but were allowed to go out early in the afternoon, which suited all of us, although the lunch was substantial and that seemed to affect the afternoon scoring!
I bought yardage books from the Pro shop, which proved very useful, although these were the most expensive I have ever bought at any club at ?8.00 each! They were also not as up-to-date as the Pro advised me, as I spotted at least 1 hole on each of the courses we played where new bunkering (visible from the tee) was not in the books.

An attractive approach down a tree lined entrance to a large clubhouse, and it was evident very quickly that this was quite a classy place - it is well kept, and with everything in its place. The Red course, well again, excellently kept, everything to its highest order, best tees I have seen this year, fairways well defined, no rough, some huge bunkers, and true and large greens. The one thing (typical of many heathland courses) is that it is difficult to remember each and every hole without help from a guide, and whilst there are many very tough holes (one at 474 yards par 4),, there are no fillibusters, no real memorable ones. The first 9 are incredibly flat, whilst a few on the back nine have a few minute undulations, but it is still a very easy walking venue. Keep straight and you will be OK, but the gorse awaits either side for the errant shots.
All round nice heathland course, very well kept in all respects, but very pricey indeed, truthfully, too expensive for what you get.
