Church Stretton Golf Club
Welcome to the oldest 18-hole course in Shropshire and one of the highest courses in the United Kingdom.
Our history includes James Braid, Harry Vardon and J.H.Taylor (known as the Great Triumvirate). All three have played the course. It was designed, in part, by Braid and Vardon, adding to the work done earlier by Jack Morris and James Hepburn.
The views from all 18 holes are breathtaking. On a clear day, you can see Cheshire, Staffordshire and Herefordshire.
The fact that we never have temporary greens or temporary tees makes our course worth playing all year round. Our well-drained, springy turf means we never suffer from muddy fairways or soggy greens.
Our friendly professional, James Townsend, guarantees you a warm welcome, whether you are a two-ball with a 2-fore-1 voucher, or a large golf society wanting to play 36 holes on a Saturday. We want to see you on the course and you won’t be waiting around on the first tee. There is plenty of space for all.
When you finish your round you will be welcomed again, this time by Nia Pierce-Jones and her staff who will provide you with excellent food and a variety of drinks.

Play. This. Course. Then play it again the next day. No two days up there are the same. Low scores are possible (if unlikely) if you manage to get a round in in fair weather, but this is presents the very best golfers with a challenge unlike any other with quickly changing levels as you make your way to the top of the hill and back down. If there is a more challenging first three holes in golf then I am yet to find them. You'd think that opening with 3 par 3s would make them easy...
The greens are kept in excellent condition, and the fairways are friendly to play from. Keep hitting straight and enjoy the views!The Course

A short but testing course both in terms of golf and climbing - there are some very hilly fairways and some greens that are much higher than tee positions. But what goes up must come down and so there are some compensations on the back nine. Best enjoyed - both the course and the views - when the weather is fine.

Course is short, hilly and slightly eccentric. However, shows that distance isn't everything as very hard to play to handicap, an excellent challenge. The setting is special, the views on a clear day magnificent, remember to bring the camera.

A one off course where the weather controls your card - a short course on some days - a beast on others. Physically exhausting, spectacular views, very very hospitable.
Has to be played to believe.
