Scruffy.
Very poor tee beds. Greens slow and hairy, with holes in some. Poor bunkers. Some poor fairways. Nice lay out. Not too long but you need to plot your way around it. Good practice facilities with a small covered range, although you have to walk halfway down the first hole to get to it. Good social distancing and hygiene measures. Lovely pint of Estrella Galicia afterwards.(Round played: Aug 2020 - Score: 79 Handicap: 10.2)

I've always enjoyed playing Peter Alliss designed courses as they are good fun ,playable & well designed .However ,this was an exception & i didn't think it was that good.
Although it's not hilly it's a long walk round .The greens were the slowest i've see this winter & i play a different course each week .You had to push the ball at the hole .
Also ,the par 3s were uninspiring ,most of the par 5s you couldn't go for in two because the hole narrowed down and / or there was too much trouble near the green negating the effect of a good drive .Down 18 i hit a good drive but then just had to bunt an 8 iron down the fairway. On the sharp dogleg par 4 9th i hit a drive that carried the stream but then ran through the fairway into the rough & then couldn't go for the green .
Flagsticks didn't have the smaller distance flags on them & were not colour coded & some tee yardage posts were actually behind the tee instead of being alongside it & surprisingly i didn't notice anything on the course signifying the meridian line.
The pluses were that it is quite a peaceful place to play , there is a lot of gorse around the course which gives it visual appeal ,i liked holes 2, 8 ,11 & 14 & it 's quite nice sitting on the clubhouse terrace ( although the pub style picnic tables weren't very comfortable ) but overall there are too many shortcomings here .
Also ,although we played on the cheap day Monday it's overpriced for what it is & although we had a bit of a trek to get here i wouldn't return to play it again .

The welcome from the Manager is variable, some days it is difficult to get an anknowlegment from him. Shop staff good, Girls in Half way house good.
Food over priced, you may want to try the Blue Lion in Hardwick just up the road, a lot better. Be careful of the out of date soft drinks being sold in the half way house. Generally the soft drinks are over priced £2 a bottle. Drop into Tescos before you arrive. In Summary. Good challenging course. Some Staff members need to go on a customer care course. Food and drinks over rated and over priced.

Should have been closed
Played holes 1-4 and then 14-18, then played them all again. To be honest I was pretty disappointed to pay ?40 for that, it's really not on to charge full price for 18 holes when half the course is under water. Pace of play was super slow too with groups of 4 not letting groups of 1 & 2 through. We had to wait for at least 5 minutes on every tee.Reviewer Rating

we had to play off mats which i understand but the mats we're in very bad condition.
this should've affected the green fee's and been a little cheaper .
staff and food was great .

Nice course with a couple of mad holes
Good course, plenty of room, but a couple of mad holes (the 9th in particular being barking). Signs saying play the hole as designed are only appropriate is the hole is well designed. Forcing a vicious high slice to get over mature trees to a fairway is mad, and I can understand why the 240 yard straight option may be preferred by anyone under 40. In fact it’s so silly that they need a local rule allowing the ball to be dropped on the far side of the ditch. Otherwise decent condition, though rather spongy greens.Reviewer Rating

a thinkers course
long course but not designed for the bombers. you have to plot your way round taking driver sparingly. the greens could do with some maintenance, they needed a good cut and rolling, but overall a good course would recommend(Round played: Aug 2020 - Score: 94 Handicap: 15.7)

Played this course several times before. Always in decent condition, today was probably the best I have seen. Not that I did it justice.Reviewer Rating
