Assault course
No, I didn't play well, but ugh. I've played here several times and there's too much water, too many trees, too many obstacles altogether. Also the greens were very bumpy, bare areas around the greens and the bunkers crusty. Ok, early season, I know, but compared with my own course which is not far away, Bondhay just wasn't in good condition.
Played in a society of 20 players, ranging from single figures to 28. Only 3 people got 30+ points (off yellows). So either we're all rubbish or the course is just too damn hard. Up to you to decide. With a few less hazards, it could be a good course...

Awful
Played the course 18/03/23 and was very very disappointed, the fairways were left incredibly long, no defining cut between fairways and semi rough, the greens were heavily sanded, not rolled and pitted and scarred. Trees have been felled around the greens to let in more sunlight on the greens but they have left two foot ugly stumps as a hazard which looked like a child had been let loose with a birthday chain saw.The food and drinks were good and a special mention to the bar staff for a pleasant service -- the only redeeming feature of the day !

Can’t see the good for the trees!
Bondhay is laid out over interesting undulating terrain and the turf is good. I’m sure it was an excellent golf course when it was originally built to a Donald Steele design.Unfortunately however, the owners have seen fit to almost completely ruin the experience by planting thousands upon thousands of trees flanking every fairway and intruding horribly on play. Any strategy and subtlety in the original design has been obliterated by tree growth and playing Bondhay today is a very dull and frustrating exercise in straight hitting.
It is no wonder that Donald Steele refuses to have his name any longer associated with the place.
There is a rumour afoot that a high profile top tour pro with local connections is interested in buying the club and taking it upmarket. I hope he’s got a lot of chainsaws!

Lovely course being neglected
Played the course this week and what a shame the course has been massively neglected during the winter with scars still showing where rubber mats were in place. Now in the hot weather the sprinklers are either broken or need servicing as the are on the green and tees that the sprinklers reach are lovely and lush but the other parts of the greens are burnt and dying off. The fringes are cracking open and lifting, in some places the turf is curling up 2-3 inches. The bunkers WOW these should be GUR they contain a light sprinkling of dust in them not sand and are full of stones and rocks and not to mention weeds growing in them everywhere, they are like playing out of concrete and are an eyesore. The course with a little TLC eg soft sand in the bunkers after they have been de weeded and de stoned. Greenstaff actually inspecting the course and getting out with the hosepipe to reach the areas that are dying off before it is too late to recover. Spoke to members who have complained but nothing seems to be done a real shame...Reviewer Rating

The course itself is far too demanding for 18 handicappers. There are too many trees and bunkers, and no details about the layout of the holes, either by the holes,or on the scorecards.
A disappointing day out

Dry
A tough round on a dry course. The recent sunny weather has clearly affected the quality. Nice to see the green keepers out in the heat trying to get it back to its usual standardReviewer Rating
