Fantastic golf course ,very busy at times and some slow players but well worth the visit and a buggy is a must but you need to book the buggy well in advance.

Booked via Teeofftimes for £17.50.

Arrived to find that the Pro shop is not much more than a small room downstairs out of the way. It gave the impression that the hotel had begrudgingly made room to squeeze it in. That was fortunately the only bad point. The club give out mandatory golf insurance for the day regardless of whether you have your own, a very good idea.

There is a warm up area compromising a 250 yard driving area and a fairly large putting green (although no mini pins just holes)

The course is over 6500 yards to a good pair of socks (perhaps even a spare pair) is needed for the round. The 1st hole is an inviting par 5 and gives the hope of a good start and the 2nd has the potential for an Eagle. For the majority the course is straight and you won't really find yourself getting into much trouble unless you are really wayward. There are a cheeky couple of well placed ponds, streams etc and with the course being so long you really need to avoid them. Hell the shortest hole is 173 yards off the gents tee. The overall condition of the greens were petty good despite there being a considerable aount of unimpaired pitch marks on several of them, although that ays more about the golfers than the greenkeepers.

The scenery is great and the course played at a steady rate but add on at least an extra half hour from normal due to the length (it really plays long).

If your a few shots over your normal handicap then you've had a good round. I play off 11 and went round in 87 + 2 lost balls so i walked away very happy.

Afterwards i nipped into the spike bar only to find that they stop serving food at 1700 but advised that i could go upstairs and get something in the restaurant, which i did. £13.50 for a cheeseburger and hand cut (proper) chips was fairly reasonable considering that the restaurant has 1 rosette.

Would i recommend this course??? YES
Would i go back??? YES
Would i recommend the food??? It was OK.

Cardrona is a very good layout among glorious scenery, and in reasonable condition apart from the greens - many were burnt after the recent spell of good weather. However, its very long at over 6800 yards and there are some big tee to green walks - if I was playing it again I'd take a buggy. At times it became a slog, not helped by the general slow pace of play (this was my first 5-hour round). The course looks fairly open, but as you're hitting woods or long irons most of the way round and there are few parallel fairways, anything a bit loose is gone.

Looking at the course from the Hotel gives no indication as to the walk/length........ Green to T sometimes a bit of a trek, but an enjoyable round can be had with plenty of challenges.Well worth the trip for golf and fantastic views.

Played the course with my son on sat 27/8/22. The course condition was by far the best we have encountered having played it a number of times over recent years. The putting greens which were very poor in the past have improved enormously and have obviously benefited from a lot of hard work by the greens staff. We were looked after very well by Chris and would recommend a visit to this beautiful part of Scotland to enjoy a round or two. I have no doubt the next time we play and write a review, my rating will be a 10 !

Getting There

The greens on the course suffered badly following an irrigation failure last year but they are getting there albeit some slower than others. Some remain a "hit and hope" but others are getting smoother. There is also evidence of investment in the bunker management with fresh white sand waiting to be raked into place. The rest of the course is in good condition and by the end of May i would predict that the course will be back to its former self.

This is a lovely course in gorgeous surroundings. The greens were smooth and quick, and the fairways are wide, which is good because the course is long: 6555 yards from the yellows.

The only slight downer is the number of stones in the bunker, but I guess the way to avoid them is to avoid the bunkers. Also, a few people mentioned the length of walk between some of the greens and tees. According to my GPS it was a 6.5 mile walk round the course, but I say who cares when you have scenery like this.

Loved this course!!!

very good course but a challenging layout, walks from greens to tees can be far! as the other reviews state, keep it on the short stuff or you will struggle - the rough is very unforgiving - play to your handicap here and you will do well, the price on teeofftimes was amazing (£17) as was the scenery

Following days of rain the course was in a poor condition with a number of fairways soaking, muddy footpaths and generally unpleasant conditions underfoot.
On another day or at any other course the conditions would have been sufficient for the course to be closed. the distance between tees is lengthy and for 'older' golfers there is just too much walking. Buggies however not available or sensible in such conditions. Additionally playing off mats should have been mandatory.
