Although the course is set in 210 acres, the option of playing fewer than eighteen holes is always available as the Clubhouse is centrally situated near the ninth green and overlooking the eighteenth green. Good course. Bit exposed/windy but it can't help its location!
Greens are very well maintained. Bunkers have plenty of soft sand. Shop quite small and staff not as welcoming as some places, but nothing to complain about really. A good challenge of golf.
Ruined slightly by fairly high charges (although online deals are often available) and being quite corporate (owned by Crown Golf). If it was a members club, I'd join immediately. Membership rates are also very high (around £1400 for full membership). Can get very busy in summer with long rounds a problem.
When I last visited there was also a very officious marshall on duty who almost accused me of sneaking in without paying (the course is open to the road at both ends). His manner was neither courteous, welcoming or appropriate. Rather spoiled my round.

Great golf course especially for the long hitter with greens that are normally in excellent condition and a fair challenge for all 18 holes.
Excellent club house especially in summer on the decking and great value food on the specials board.
Normally playable in most conditions to a good standard and a great day out

Proper links type course - we started in rain - reached the turn in wind - and finished in sunshine, greens were like ice, a proper test of golf.

Good course - quite long.
A test of golf for all levels of golfer.
Quite undulating in places.
Usually in excellent condition with super greens, drains very well.
Very nice clubhouse.
I would recommend a visit.

Always a challenging but very enjoyable course.
Have never known a course to change so much just because of the wind direction. It really makes you rethink your strategy hole by hole. One course which never becomes boring. Built on chalk this is a well drained course.

A wonderful inland links, well designed and with some real challenges. This course suits the player who can hit the ball longer than the average, but even with my length I still find the course a wonderful challenge and play here as often as I can. The bonus for me being a Crown golf member is that this course is also one of Crowns which gives me free weeday golf at any of their clubs.

A links style course in the middle of Winchester! Played this at the back end of September, it was in great condition and I thouroughly enjoyed the layout of the course.

Very difficult course to play when it's windy! Well laid out, feels long but not too difficult to walk. Firm, tight fairways - hellish wispy rough and decent sized, true, fast greens.
Standout holes are the 9th and 18th, 2nd or 3rd shot over water towards the clubhouse. Difficult enough without being on a steep downhill lie as I was!
Helpfull friendly clubhouse staff and nice cold beer!

Built on top of a chalk hill, this course is playable in most weather conditions. Long and narrow with plenty of long grass to tangle your club, you will need to bring your 'A' game to score well here.
Don't be intimidated, but make sure you have an energy snack to get you all the way round.
