What the club says: Otterbourne Golf Course, (the sister course to Chilworth golf club) is a fifteen minute drive away and allows those nervous about their game to play without the inherent pressures of being inexperienced on a big course. Otterbourne is a 9 hole course set in a scenic country estate and is primarily aimed at the beginner. However, it can also provide the more experienced golfer with a challenge depending on the player's confidence off the tee. Otterbourne also has a pro-shop offering some great deals on startup golf sets. Clubs may be tried on the range before purchase, to help ensure they are suited to the individual.

Good cheap(!) round.

Played Otterbourne a few times now, especially as I was learning. Good 9 hole course with interesting hole layout and course design, better than other 9 hole courses around. Downside, fairways are like roughs at better courses and greens are like fairways. But for a quick social round, certainly decent enough.

Unfortunately, they have recently put their prices up to ?10 unless you buy a ?30 loyalty card to then reduce your green fee to ?5, so good value if you play there regularly enough and get the card. But for ?10 I would rather go to Avington park and pay ?13 for a 9 hole course.

Oh dear!

Visited here several times a year over the last few years but sadly I won't be going back. It's saving grace has always been good value for money at a fiver for 9 holes and the friendliness. This compensates for the months of sogginess due to poor drainage, poor greens and variable course conditions. I visited today for the first time in a few months to be greeted by a doubling of the green fee for occasional visitors and the course in the worst condition I've ever seen it. Friendly as always, however my back lawn is better than some of the greens and basically there's evidence of cost cutting everywhere. I understand that green fees have to rise, but it is now way over priced given the poor quality of the course. Shame really as it's a good challenge when at it's best.

So, five years on, I thought it was time to revisit the place. You can see my 2012 review below.\\Well, generally I have to say the place is much better than I remember it. I think my earlier review was (at the time) fair but unflinching. That said, they have obviously tried to improve the place (without spending all that much on it) and it has worked.\\What is better? Well, the drainage seems to be better now, although we hadn\'t had much rain when I visited. The greenkeeping generally appears to be much better and although they won\'t be getting invited to host any tournaments any time soon, that\'s not why you choose to play here. Putting green has now healed and the driving range has a cover. \\What was the same? Amazingly, the price. This is a major draw to Otterbourne - only £5 for a midweek round (£9 at weekends) is tremendous value for any course, even if this one isn\'t perfect. The greens are still very heavily sloping and a disproportionately hard challenge for this type of course. There is better grass on them than previously though, even if there are still quite a fair number of weeds. Bunkers are still a bit compacted and stony.\\What was worse? Nothing as far as I could tell.\\In summary - a better value prospect than it once was. It isn\'t premier league golfing, but if you are new to the sport and local, then it is a great place to get some on-course experience rather than batting another bucket of balls down the range (and will do your golf much more good).

£5 to play midweek you can't go wrong, it's cheaper than a bucket of balls at the driving range. Not much in terms of facilities, but excellent value for money.

Unfortunately it was very wet and muddy due to the recent bad weather and poor drainage on the course. But the manager did warn me. The last time I played this course it was dry and sunny. So it's a very different course to play in the winter. But for £5 I'm not complaining. Scored badly though!

I am a 18 handicap golfer and a member of one of Australia's top 5 golf clubs. I am now living in London and had not played golf for 12 months. I have friends coming over to play the courses where the British Open has been played so I thought I should get in some practice. For £5 for a bucket of practice balls, and £5 for a round of golf on mown grass, Otterbourne represents exceptional value for the social golfer, or someone like me, who wanted practice on a course at a very cheap price. I teed off at 6:30pm in late spring, as a single golfer, the last in the field, by 3 or 4 holes. I played 2 to 3 balls on each hole, and caught the tail end of the field on the 8th hole. The VERY friendly staff asked me to lock the gate as I left, which I did.

This is a begginers course, but its very tricky! Prepare to use your wedges from the rough if you make any slight mistakes. A challenging course, but I enjoyed it. Most of the other people writing their reviews here must be PGA Tour Professionals, because its not as bad as they make out. Yes, it gets a bit boggy after heavy rain, but come on... The rough is heavy, but dont hit it in there then?!! The 5th Hole is the biggest and most challenging Par 4 i have ever seen!! Get a par here and it doesnt matter about the rest of your round, you will be overjoyed!!

I first played on this course about 8 years ago... It was just about ok then... but it has deteriorated each year... Now it is shockingly bad.. the greens are so bad your ball will not roll... it will bump from side to side and up and down, changing direction here... not just because of all the pitch marks, but because of the weeds!
If golf courses were restaurants this course would be McDonalds .

The course and club facilities have been improved, as has the driving range. But the course drainage is poor. The tees, fairways and greens were very wet. Prepare to get muddy if it's been wet. If they could improve that then it would be a really good 9 hole course.
