One of the most confusing and unusually laid out courses I have played, crosses a road twice, one hole has a sloping fairway thats almost impossible to stay on, another has a tree plonked in the middle of the fairway and the 18th seems to have been added as an after thought. Great views though, but I expected more from a 'Royal'.

Blew my wig off
Played the Devonshire course, which is comprised of two very different nines; the front was reminiscent of an alpine course layout and the back nine, more a parkland course. Course condition was very good, especially the greens. However, the wind was so strong that a good scoring round was out of the question, although we did manage close to handicap on the back nine. There are a couple of strange holes, but that’s true of many courses, if not most. Overall, a very welcoming and well maintained club and course. I would like to play it on a calmer day.Reviewer Rating

Course excellent but not worth £55
Really nice course but a friend booked it and I couldn't believe that it had gone up from pre pandemic £35 after 1 to £55. £35 twilight is now after 3pm. As I say good course but not worth £55 IMO.Reviewer Rating

Great 9 hole alongside the Devonshire
Really enjoyed my round here after visiting last month.Great facilities overlooking the course.
I played the Hartington course as I would have collapsed playing the Devonshire 18 due to the heatwave. No trees on the Hartington so it was just brutal sunshine.
Good practice facilities here and also a nice skyline view of Eastbourne when you are up high. Nice pro shop also.

Great course in the hip of the South Downs, fantastic views from the 3rd tee out to sea, very well maintained greens & fairways, friendly members and very helpful pro shop staff.

Royal always a good course- Changes made recently are daft - the 2nd is a weird par 3, and the 17th should never have been changed to a par 4- whose ridiculous idea was that ? Clearly not a golfer !
