(West Course). I played this on a bright November day but following a week of heavy rain. The pro shop advised on arrival that it was "a bit wet out there". However the course was in good condition - yes, a few odd wet bits but generally a very playable.

The course was really interesting - a great mixture of holes. Although a short course, this is still a interesting and good test with good use of the land. Of note, the SI 1 14th with a blind tee shot and the picturesque par 3 16th. A course map would have been good on the back of the scorecard... or do you want us to fork out for the full course guide?

On the negative side, the were A LOT of dog walkers out there. Many were happy to share the ground with golfers others see it as their right to saunter around without regard to anyone else.

19th had great facilities and was very welcoming although pricey. £4 a pint of standard lager; about £4.50 for a bacon bap (good bacon bap though!).

Overall an enjoyable round and will definitely come again.

A great course and very quiet at the beginning of January.

Great value for money with winter rates.

Course probably plays much more easily in winter without the heather out!

This is a top quality course, managed in a traditional manner. Quality firm putting surfaces, playable year round. One needs to hit it straight, you will loose balls if you don't. First four holes give a gentle start, then some cracking holes like 5/7/10/11/12/17. Heathland golf at its best.

I cannot pretend to be unbiased as a member of Royal Ashdown, but I did want to put the record straight about the reviewer who complained of too many blind tee shots. We have two, on the second and the 17th holes.

He also complained of dogs running all over the course. Members and walkers take their dogs onto the course but all must be kept under control and, in all but the most exceptional circumstances, are. The course is currently in fist class condition and we have received many favourable comments so far this season. I can only suggest that your readers come and see us to make their mind up. This last review does not give a fair and objective opinion.

A really really tight course ( OLD ) to be honest, I would in reflection leave the driver at home ! a plotters course, those with the best course management will reap rewards, wild drivers will pay a severe price and many lost balls. Greens are very tricky with breaks that will amaze you, even a very good green reader will be caught out here !

Fantastic old course and well worth the effort needed to climb some steep slopes- none more so than the stroke two index 13th. There are four of the best par threes to be found anywhere in the county, ranging from the short, 125 yard but fiendish, sixth hole with its stream and two tiered sloping green, to the 249 yard 10th off an elevated tee offering fantastic views across the forest.

This is a great test of golf and, if you need some rehab after lunch then the shorter West Course is a belter in its own right. The 18th hole par four on the West is possibly the best hole on either course. Despite the wet conditions this is a great place to play and a great place to visit.

Two fantastic golf courses and not a bunker in sight! Although with all the heather on the Old Course & trees on the West Course they are by no means easy.

Ive been playing the west course for nearly 20 years now and im always very impressed by the condition. Its not a bangers course but requires good course management and a deft touch on the small and fast greens. Well worth a visit!
