Hugely overrated
A tremendously average course. Nothing particularly special about the layout, or the condition, especially when considering the price. Also, the pace of play was abysmal, not a single four ball in sight and 4+ hours, shocking. The majority of the members seem to think they're better than everyone because of the "status" of the club, which for me it nowhere near deserves. I guarantee you could easily spend half as much and find a more enjoyable/better course to play.Reviewer Rating

Gone Downhill
I used to play this course often and tried to join butbthe waiting list was too long (up to 7 years!). Unfortunately, in the last 5-10 years, the course has gotten steadily worse, both in condition (inconsistent greens...) and opening up through temoving trees. \\It has lost somewhat that feel of being on the course by yourself in your group which was special. I don’t know whether it’s a greens issue or a difficulty issue, but the affect has been to make a tricky, interesting course for scratch +/-3, to a less fulfilling experience.\\High handicappers are happier with the easier course but still preferred the ‘old course’, the older ones who remember, anyway. They aren’t happy with the trees being cut as it’s more open. The greens never needed such radical change to be excellent. I played in the Open regional qualifiers and they were a dream, even when wet.\\A lot of money has been spent I hear, but on the evidence, not well. Hopefully they have a long term vision as the setting will, always be supreme.\\I really liked this course and it’s sad it has gone this way.Reviewer Rating

Not what I thought it would be like.
Surprisingly this is a past open qualifying venue but for some reason the past 2 times I have been the greens have been really bobbly and inconsistent. The bunkers looked like they have just been forgot about which is not how they should be maintained. The drainage is another issue aswel. Very surprised to be honest I bet the members are really annoyed at the price they have to pay aswel. The only good thing is the layout this could be a really good course with proper work done to it. Also range was shut when I went so only had a net to hit a couple of shots into.Reviewer Rating

The course looked terrible and played worse. It looked like heavy machinery had been driving down the fairways and the whole course looked in dire need of some major repairs. I was given a flyer with the subs on it. £1150 for a year? They have got to be kidding that is major course fees not a course that looked and played awful. Bunkers were not raked properly, fairways had thatch all over them, tees - not one level.I agreed with my partners, probably the best course scenically but we come to play golf not take pictures. Pleasington looks like it has been resting on past glories and got an apprentice to look after the course to save money.
The catering was almost inedible, in fact we all left our food, not good

With a bit of money (and they have it) they could solve the majority of these issues and make it into the course it's written up to be

Not convinced
Always referred to as one of the best courses in the North West, but for me it doesn't deserve the hype. Never had a decent welcome in the pro shop ; the course has some forgettable holes (3, 11 & 17 as examples) and it's over priced. Clubhouse great and the welcome in the bar has always been great, but the course just doesn't blow me away.Reviewer Rating

Enjoyable experience
The round started with a few frustrations- i put my head around the door of the shop and it seems to have become a practice studio. So I went to play. I waited a few moments after my tee off time as there were two players ahead- both playing two balls, as it turned out- the first two holes took almost 30 minutes by which time I was caught up by the group behind. The course always looks good- it seems the rough is a little more forgiving than it has been. On the downside, quite a few of the greens offer bobbly putting and seem to be inconsistent when it comes to speed from hole to hole. A number had sand on- one of my putts turned almost 90 degrees through sand!
Fairly busy on a beautiful Monday- but once the two juniors gave up it was a good pace of play.
With the condition of the greens, the full price green fee would be at least heading towards 'poor value' especially considering the excellence of greens at some other local courses for substantially less expense.
