Newcastle United Golf Club
The course was originally designed by Tom Morris and has matured since its' conception in 1892. Measuring just over 6600 yards from the medal tees and with a par of 72, the course has proved to be a challenging but fair test of golf and boasts some of the longer par fives in the area. Combining the elements of both links and heathland with the constantly changing strength and direction of the wind, means that that shot making is at a premium.

It's an ok course,a few tricky holes, play a lot longer than they appear on the score card. The rough is a nightmare for the beginner. There are better courses around the Newcastle Upon Tyne area.

Some good holes, and although on a moor, has some links type holes. Overall a decent test, but reasonably forgiving as long as you don't stray too far off line

I've never had much of a desire to play this course as it looks a bit bleak as you drive through the Town Moor. I was very pleasantly surprised with how much charm the course actually has. Some of the holes are very Parkland style but some feel very much like playing on a Links course ( in the middle of a city !! ) The course is an enigma in it's condition as well, a lot of the course seems to drain well making the greens very fast, but it has loads of GUR as well from what appears to be water collecting between the undulations of the land. These undulations are the courses biggest weakness. The holes on their own are not particularly inspiring and these undulations can add to your frustration. They are a feature on every hole and many a decent drive kicked off right or left, and it's certainly a course for those who prefer to pitch rather than chip and run. The rough is very punishing but its not overly intrusive so if you end up in it it's your own fault !! Everyone around the course was very friendly and it's priced reasonably. Overall I enjoyed my round even though it felt like each hole was a bit of a lottery, I would return but not in a hurry.

Undulating fairway's which are quite wide result in a comfortable round of golf if you're hitting it straight; stray too far from the fairway and you're in big trouble. the greens are deceptively fast and roll true. Drainage is a big problem with surface water showing fairly quickly during heavy rain - make sure the weather is good if your going to play here!

the course is situated on part of Newcastle town moor and is very undulating so balls come to rest either on an up or down slope. the undulation can make it hard work for walking . the fairways are wide but with punishing rough either side and some hidden hollows can catch you out. the course [for me ] seems to play longer than its 6400 yds but in exellent condition.very friendly staff and members. unfortunatly did not have time to sample the club house but i'm sure it would have been just as good.
