At 6000 yards its not too long and we were round in 4 hours, which is reasonable for a 3-ball on a Sunday afternoon with a few lost balls. It's very hilly in parts, and feels like a moorland track in places, although the fairways are lush and the greens are in excellent condition.
The course has lots of trees, some strategically placed in the middle of fairways to make you think before pulling out the driver - there are holes when you can grip it and rip it, but others where you have to plot your way round. There are some cracking holes too: the 6th is a great risk / reward reachable par 4, the 9th is one of the best par 5s Ive ever played (8 iron, 6 iron, wedge!) and the 7th and 10th are great wee par 4s.
We were also able to get a proper meal in the clubhouse when we came off the course at sunset, which is a pleasant change in Scotland, and all of the course / hotel staff were really helpful pre and post round.

Both courses are in excellent playing condition right now, are extremely well maintained, and all staff whom I have had any dealings with, have been excellent too.

Tough course
Main Murrayshall course is quite long and a challenging layout thanks to the many trees scattered around the layout. You need to think your way around this course, not smash a drive off every tee. Some holes stand out 8 (tree lined par 3), 10 (approach over a pond) and 17 spring to mind. Good club house facilities, not mixed with very many members, but the ones I've met are friendly. Buy a shot saver booklet from the Pro shop if you are playing the course for the first time and don't always reach fr your driver! Country membership is a steal!Reviewer Rating
