The course was in great condition, with springy fairways and receptive greens. However, unfortunately today the greens had recently been hollow tined and sanded. That said once the early morning moisture had gone, they still ran true and at a reasonable pace. A shame because I have played here before and the greens were very fast, tricky and testing (this is why I have only rated the course V. Good not excellent, for today).
If you ever find yourself looking for a game in Somerset and the sun is shining this course cannot really be bettered in my opinion. If the weather is a bit on the dodgy side though you will quite often find yourself playing in cloud and mist due to the altitude. Speaking to a couple of members after the round, they do go out whatever the conditions, the course only closing when deep snow prevents play!
This is a fantastic golf course and well worth a visit if you get a chance. No tee times are booked, so it is worth ringing to see if any competitions are on beforehand, and to get an idea of the best time to arrive so as to avoid any members groups. Great value too, we paid £20 each and after arriving at the suggested time of 0830 had a free run at the whole course with only a four ball behind for company.

The Best golf course in North Somerset
Really challenging members golf course on top of The Mendip Hills at Gurney Slade off the A37. Beautiful undulating, springy, fabulous heathland fairways with tremendous views over the Vale of Avalon, Glastonbury Tor and the Bristol Channel. After a lot of hard work after the difficult winter of 17/18, the course has been in fabulous condition over the very hot summer and now through the autumn and into winter. The greens are a real challenge in the summer with their speed and slopes, and remain open in the winter unless there is a heavy frost. No winter tees here either. Great combination of exercise, views and challenging golf make days here a great experience to warm the heart. The Pro Team, led by Stuart Disney is great and the clubhouse and members very friendly and welcoming. Enjoy.Reviewer Rating
