Maywood Golf Club
Rushy Lane, Risley, Derbyshire, DE72 3ST United Kingdom
Maywood Golf Club was designed and built by then proprietor Peter Moon. It was opened as a 9 hole course in 1990 then two years later extended to 18 holes together with an enlarged clubhouse.
The course covers over 100 acres of picturesque parkland providing a variety of breathtaking views over a number of different counties.
It has a reputation as one of the most friendly and welcoming clubs in the area.
In April 2006 the clubs new proprietors Tory Moon and Brian Tucker introduced a structured plan of improvements to ensure the continued development of this most friendly of golf clubs.Book a Tee Time

Played as part of a group-on deal, the course is good in terms of test, some tough holes await with traps and ditches waiting for an errant shot. Condition could be improved but that may have something to do with the weather. Good 18 holes none the less.

despite the blustery conditions 9 of us played maywood. they currently have a winter offer for just £10 until end of February. The course is a little damp under foot but greens are all true. only complaint is the lack of 150 and 100 yd markers to green.

fairways run along side each other, which means waiting at times for other players.
Greens were very bobbly and hard after a competition.

I found the faiways to be patchy and the green are just not receptive at all. All shots have to ran onto the green. Decent value for money at £13.00 and a lovely welcoming clubhouse. Don't think i will be back again though.

a decent golf course with some excellent holes. i do think that they have crammed a lot in here though. somme tees are playing directly over greens. one of the greens is like a pitch and putt course. winter greens a little early. however please do notthink this is a bad course. it is in fact very very good. greens are very true and good speed. course in general is in good condition. its a cheap round. some of the holes are absolutely fantastic. it is worth a game, put it this way i had a blinder on back nine with five pars on the trot all of which were reasonable holes, no easy holes here! give it a whirl!

A nice course with a mix of easy and hard holes, several holes have strategically placed lateral water hazzards.
Clubhouse a bit basic but is due refurbishment shortly

Played as part of a society, wasn't looking forward to it as have heard bad things, so really pleased to find a well maintained good test of golf with some cracking holes and only a few samey one's in the middle, greens really smooth and true. Great value for money.

Given the time of year and weather conditions this was not a bad course for the price and on a 2 for 1 in Jan 2008.
The greens impressed me, similar priced courses in the area have terrible greens, here there were no temp greens, all greens were pretty dry, well drained and seemed true.
Also the course was fairly open so made the fairways seem wide and at times you didn't even know a hole had any rough.
Only drawback was some tees/greens seemed to cross over which I would guess when the course is busy this causes hold ups, I played when it was very quiet so not a problem.

Good value for money. £7.50 with a 2fore1 voucher.
The course was in good shape - I was pre-warned that the greens there were hard due to lack of watering - therefore some holes were to be approached as a links course. I've heard alot of crtitism about the hardness of the greens - but in my opinion you play with whatever challenges are put in front of you - and I'll certainly be playing there again.

Nice, wide fairways, with decent varied length. Open, not technically demanding, but very god value.

What can I say about Maywood? I was a member here in 1980 and the course hasn't progressed or matured since. I last played after a dry spell and the tee boxes and fairways were bone hard, the greens rough, variable over the course and scalped in places. It just isn't very well maintained, which is a shame.
If you play there, the first is hard work, the 4th is a tempting drive, but it gets a bit flat after that.
Not a very good review, take it with a pinch of salt and try it for yourself (on a 2 fore 1 if poss) and see what you think. I can't because I'm not very welcome anymore.
