Loughrea Golf Club

A Parkland Course set in 130 acres of rolling hills and undulating valleys with a back drop of the Sliabh Aughy Mountains . Add in 4 lakes, several open streams, a Souterrain, numerous strategically placed bunkers and you have an interesting and exciting challenge ahead of you. Loughrea Golf Club moved to its current location in 1954 and began as a testing nine hole course. The course was redesigned and expanded to 18 Holes in 1992. This development was undertaken under renowned course architect Eddie Hackett, one of the most prolific course designers in Irish golf history. Further expansion occurred in 2002 when additional land was purchased and developed adding 1,000 yds approx to the length of the course. Four new holes and greens were constructed and three others modified. This development resulted in making the course a Par 71 for Men and Par72 for Ladies. We are proud of all these developments and the way they have enhanced our course. The course poses an inviting and exciting challenge and is considered a true and fair test for all golfers. We hope that all players, members and visitors, will enjoy the challenge our course poses and the hospitality of the clubhouse.

Location

Location: From Galway Direction: Take the dual carriageway (N6) out of Galway following sign posts for Dublin, stay on the dual carriageway (pass by Oranmore) until you come to the 2nd roundabout, take the first exit off of the roundabout (sign posted for Dublin - N6). Continue on through the village of Craughwell (10km), as you approach Loughrea town, you will come to a roundabout (start of the Loughrea by-pass). Take the second exit off of the road about, still following signs for Dublin. Approximately one mile later you will come to a second round about, take the first exit off of the roundabout. The golf club is approximately one mile down this on the right hand side. From Dublin Direction: Stay on the Dublin to Galway road (N6), though Athlone and Ballinasloe, until you come to the first roundabout of the Loughrea by-pass, take the second exit off of the roundabout, following signs for Galway. Approximately one mile later you will come to a second roundabout, take the third exit off of the roundabout, the golf club is approximately a mile down this road on the right hand side.

Tough course, Long par 4's short Par 3's bar the 4th, 3 par 5's all on the back nine, always breezy, adding to the difficulty, tee boxes not great but still one of the best courses in Connaught !! Go for a round ! €20 weekdays, €25 at weekends, Open Day every Wednesday
