Greens like fairways
I thought the course (other than the greens) played well (Fairways, Bunkers and 2nd cut), most of the longer holes are quite forgiving if you miss far right. Some nice holes down tree lines but overall average views. As for the pace of play, I got held up by about 3 groups of senior ladies playing what looked like a very, very amateur competition - one group (a two ball) behind the comp (who were lovely) didn't offer to let one play through even though they knew they would only be playing 9, so the average waiting time was about 10-mins per tee box. To be fair, there are no warnings around comps on GolfNow so really it was bad timing which added to my slight frustration regarding the slow pace of play.
*The greens were as thick as most decent fairways I've played off, seriously needs attention*
The course itself isn't easy to get to, way more in the centre of town than I thought, very limited parking as well, so I don't know what they do on busy days. My Tee time was on a Wednesday around 11 am and the lot was filled to about 80% capacity.
I hate to sound like a real "Debbie downer" but I guess the point of a review is to guide others looking at playing these courses.
Furthermore, I proceeded up the wooden to the clubhouse for a pint and a bite to eat after my round; what looked like a decent breakfast on the menu turned out to be an egg, overcooked sausage, bacon, watery mushrooms, canned tomato and beans in a saucer and a slice of toast with margarine - there were water-filled ashtrays everywhere (outside seating) and I wasn't convinced the barman knew whether the kitchen was serving food or not.
I'm always happy to play new courses, but for a "deal" at £21 for a round, midweek via GolfNow, there are many other courses in much better shape overall. Sorry.

Compact course in Northampton
Played with 2 colleagues around this course taking advantage of a tee off times offer. Arrived and booked into the club shop to meet the most miserable disengaging Pro you could wish to meet. No words of advice, no greeting no nothing - does not want to make you go back!!. One of us hired a trolley (winter rules) for a ?5 one of the straps was broken. The course is a very tight course and definitely challenges your iron play. The greens were in very good condition for February and the fairways played ok, a little bare in places but it is winter. The tees were a mixture of winter and normal greens so no real complaints there. Deceptively undulating so will test your stamina if you carry your clubs. There are two major downsides to playing here, especially for visitors, neither the stroke saver or the scorecard contain a course layout and the signage between holes is absolutely terrible, to the extent we missed a hole out by playing to the wrong green and had to go back and replay them - how embarrassing. The clubhouse is very modern and the staff in the 19th were warm and welcoming (more than you can say for the club Pro), overall enjoyed the game but they could do a lot more to attract visitors and make them want to return. Cost ?14 per round.Reviewer Rating

I had only played this course once and many years ago so was looking forward to returning. I'd found a great deal on one of the golf apps so got excellent VFM.
The course was under a sea of dead autumn leaves which did make the ball hard to find ... on the fairway ... twice! However for this late in the golfing year the greens were in fine nick and were a pleasure to put on.
I'd forgotten just how tight this course was, if you haven't been before it really does take up a ridiculously small amount of room for an 18 hole course. It's situated right in the heart of a bunch of Northampton housing estates. It's so tight in fact that there is a particular area of the course where the tee boxes of the 3rd, 5th and 7th and the greens of the 2nd and 6th are all within a half football pitch of each other. I know of no other course where this is the case, that's how tight it is.
There are a couple of tee boxes that are literally right at the side of the green that often an errant shot comes flying nearby. On no other course have I heard the cries of "fore" as often as can be heard on this course. With all that said though, this extreme tightness mysteriously adds to its charm.
It is tight but if you can hit a ball straight it is very easy to score. If you can hit a ball long and straight then it truly is a gift of a course. A number of the par 4s are very drive able, the 3rd, 10th and 11th being examples. But even after the drives on the 1st, 8th, 16th and 17th I was left with under 75 yds to go on all of them. Unfortunately it only has the 1 par 5 but hey, you'll live.
Ok so it's tight, quirky, very short, hilly and I suppose a little bit dangerous due to the proximity of tee boxes and greens on some holes. But with all that said, it's really good fun, has bags of character and can be great value for money. And to finish the round the 18th has a balcony bar overlooking it that is so close you to the green you can actually to see the fear in the putting players eyes as they know 20 or 30 pairs of eyes are watching. If you putt well, get ready for the plaudits. If you hit a stinker get ready for the banter coming from the balcony.
