What the club says: Kingsthorpe provides a challenging yet fair test of golf synonymous with the design skills associated with the legendary Harry Colt. Accuracy off the tee is paramount to afford the golfer the opportunity to hit the right part of the undulating greens. Many birdie opportunities await if you can achieve this, whilst par becomes tough if off line or faced with downhill sloping putts.

Kingsthorpe Golf Course

Played for the first time and enjoyed it immensely. The course is tight and a number of holes run very close to each other, but I think that makes it much more fun. Greens were in good condition and the course look great considering the weather.

Brilliant!

Fantastic course, great greens all for £25 - a steal. Will be back. The old established layout is tight and the greens are small but great variety of holes. Didn't wait to play a single shop. Pro very friendly.

Greens like fairways

I thought the course (other than the greens) played well (Fairways, Bunkers and 2nd cut), most of the longer holes are quite forgiving if you miss far right. Some nice holes down tree lines but overall average views.

As for the pace of play, I got held up by about 3 groups of senior ladies playing what looked like a very, very amateur competition - one group (a two ball) behind the comp (who were lovely) didn't offer to let one play through even though they knew they would only be playing 9, so the average waiting time was about 10-mins per tee box. To be fair, there are no warnings around comps on GolfNow so really it was bad timing which added to my slight frustration regarding the slow pace of play.

*The greens were as thick as most decent fairways I've played off, seriously needs attention*

The course itself isn't easy to get to, way more in the centre of town than I thought, very limited parking as well, so I don't know what they do on busy days. My Tee time was on a Wednesday around 11 am and the lot was filled to about 80% capacity.

I hate to sound like a real "Debbie downer" but I guess the point of a review is to guide others looking at playing these courses.

Furthermore, I proceeded up the wooden to the clubhouse for a pint and a bite to eat after my round; what looked like a decent breakfast on the menu turned out to be an egg, overcooked sausage, bacon, watery mushrooms, canned tomato and beans in a saucer and a slice of toast with margarine - there were water-filled ashtrays everywhere (outside seating) and I wasn't convinced the barman knew whether the kitchen was serving food or not.

I'm always happy to play new courses, but for a "deal" at £21 for a round, midweek via GolfNow, there are many other courses in much better shape overall. Sorry.

Deceptively hilly parkland course in the heart of Northampton. Not the longest but some challenging approaches and undulating greens make for a challenging round. Very enjoyable.

Greens in good shape. Fairways needed to be shorter on 5/6 holes. Tees need to be reshape to make flat.

A good course, just a bit tight and pokey. There are some really easy easy holes and a couple that are very difficult - even for a single handicapper let alone two of my group who were +18.

Course is in the middle of Northampton, and is quite tight, with some holes being very close to each other, in particular around the 13th hole - a 211 yard par 3, where the tee is right next to the 12th green, and is also right beside the 14th fairway, lots of shouts of "fore" at this point of the course! The tees all had long grass on them, apparently because they've had so much rain recently that the greenkeepers could not get out and cut them. This also meant that the greens were a little long, and consequently slower than they usually are. Managed to avoid the bunkers, which was just as well on the day, because a lot had rain in them, and there was even standing rainwater on a couple of greens. Some decent slopes on the greens to make them a challenge, and whilst a lot of holes are quite short, the greens made the course play harder than you would expect. Small car park, but there is an overflow car park which you get to by driving past the 1st tee and a hundred yards or so up the first hole, before going left, and parking behind a tall fence. When our society played is was quite quiet, but the forecast all week had been for rain, which must have put some people off. In the event, we had a couple of showers, one of which was heavy, and this added a little to the water in the bunkers, but meant that the greens were very receptive. Food was good, and was part of the package we booked, but I did hear one or two of our players saying the bar prices were quite high for the after game beers.

sub 3 hour rounds abound

I am a member here and I probably pick times that are less popular but I always get 18 holes in here within 3 hours.
I have played every course in Northamptonshire and I can't think of any other course that can boast that.
in these times of penalising slow play this course solves it without really trying.

A jewel in the middle of Northampton

Beautiful course with lots of trees. Greens in beautiful condition, fast but with many undulations. Very tricky. First time we've played there and look forward to the next round when hopefully I will play it better. Nice bar and food good

Compact course in Northampton

Played with 2 colleagues around this course taking advantage of a tee off times offer. Arrived and booked into the club shop to meet the most miserable disengaging Pro you could wish to meet. No words of advice, no greeting no nothing - does not want to make you go back!!. One of us hired a trolley (winter rules) for a ?5 one of the straps was broken. The course is a very tight course and definitely challenges your iron play. The greens were in very good condition for February and the fairways played ok, a little bare in places but it is winter. The tees were a mixture of winter and normal greens so no real complaints there. Deceptively undulating so will test your stamina if you carry your clubs. There are two major downsides to playing here, especially for visitors, neither the stroke saver or the scorecard contain a course layout and the signage between holes is absolutely terrible, to the extent we missed a hole out by playing to the wrong green and had to go back and replay them - how embarrassing. The clubhouse is very modern and the staff in the 19th were warm and welcoming (more than you can say for the club Pro), overall enjoyed the game but they could do a lot more to attract visitors and make them want to return. Cost ?14 per round.
