Shocker!!

OMG!!! Avoid at all costs a shocking course, could be really nice but lack of upkeep make it like playing on a field that's not even fit for purpose. Greens what greens I've seen better fairways . A real shame. A thoughtful design but let down by th condition.

course bad condition

played here a few times but the last time i played with 3 other friends and the course was in a poor state, the greens are bare of grass in the majority of them and need water and feeding the fairways are not that good either, all in all the the course needs a lot of TLC and nurturing. Also booked and paid for in advance a bacon sandwich and a cuppa followed by a roast beef dinner after the golf only to be told after we finished our round by the owner that he had sold all the beef so he had defrosted 4 pieces of fish so we could have fish and chips, not happy. there was also a party of about 12 -15 lads on the course and after we finished our dinner 6 of them went back on the 1st tee and running to try and hit the ball just like Happy Gilmore only they were missing and taking chunks out of the turf there, the owner just looked and made the the comment who is that and then said oh its only them and did nothing . not good in my opinion. £15 a round on sundays think i will give it a miss from now on and dont advise anyone else to play will pay more on to play rather than Horncastle Golf

Must be the worst course in Linconlshire. Tight uncut fairways, small greens which aren't maintained, need water and poor grass with molehills!!! Unfriendly owner with poor clubhouse facilities. Pay the extra and find a good course. Will never play it again.

Shortish tight course set in lovely surroundings, needs accurate tee shots due to plenty of trees that line the fairways, bunkers have been left to grass over, water hazards protect many of the greens which are well thought out if rather small. The course looks neglected & needs a lot of work, rough is very rough. Greens are neglected and of poor quality. My party paid £10 each for a round which before the round we thought was good. After a few holes we regretted it. Would not recommend this course to any friends in it's present state.

Has some good holes that make you play straight. Needs work on greens as they were not cut and uneven. Greens are very small. Only 1 trolley to hire.

This has to be the worst golf course I have ever played on. The fairways are worse than my back garden - more weeds than grass. The greens are poor. It could be an interesting course but it is just not looked after - would not recommend it to anyone

Another price per round, seems to change every time I go. Fairways have been damaged by crows but I wasn't told this prior to playing or I would not have gone out. To their credit when I raised my concern I was refunded half my green fees.

As a three ball we played this course on the morning of Sunday 29th June. No more than 6 cars in the car park. The guy standing in had no details of our booking and there was no food to be had so he did give us a good deal for a single round of golf. The grass had not been cut due to problems with the cutter. Based on this visit the course is in dire need of some TLC, the fairways were longish, the rough thick and the greens were slow to putt on but the ball bounced like it had just hit concrete when landing on the green. It was not an enjoyable round, no atmosphere at all, but you can see the potential and what it has been like in the past.

Played 21.9.13. After phoning the previous Thursday to ensure 2 fore 1 vouchers can be used on the Saturday and book a tee time, you can imagine my angst to be told by a different member of staff that they couldn't be used. To be fair to the member of staff, once he found out that we had driven an hour and a half to get there he let us use them. Then we got told that there were 15 members of a society teeing off in my booked tee slot!! Again, kudos to the same member of staff as he offered us to start from Hole 10 and do the back 9 first, which we did.

The course, very tight and probably 6 holes too many for the space available. Greens were very poor and could have used a lot more sign age to show where to go next. Or even signs that can be read. Lots of water and would have liked to see sand in some of the bunkers.

It seems to me that all available funds have been spent on the upgrade of the clubhouse to the detriment to the course.

Score by the way 104 gross 28 handicap.

They're currently building a beautiful clubhouse, but that is about the only good thing about this so called "country club". Admittedly its only £10 a round, but I wouldn't play this course for free. Tiny, appalling greens and stupidly narrow fairways makes it feel like your playing on a couple of football pitches and the greenkeepers only seem to drive around on lawnmowers despite the fairways being rough length. The drainage is shocking, and those 70 "bunkers" advertised on the website have no sand at all, just filled with rain water. All those so called water hazards look disgusting and both a high and low handicapper would struggle to shoot any kind of round worth mentioning. Find a field nearby and hit a few drives in that, because it would certainly be a better condition "country club" than Horncastle Golf Club.
