Woodhall Spa Golf Club
One of Britain’s finest courses, The Hotchkin, is built on sandy soil which allows for year round play. Set amongst banks of gorse and broom, backed up with layered canopies of oak, fir and towering silver birch and encapsulated all upon a glorious carpet of heather, the natural beauty of this Lincolnshire oasis serves only to emphasise the majesty of this famous course.Contact Information

Utterly disagree with the comment about needing to be lower than a 5 handicap to enjoy the Hotchkin. I have been know to shoot over 100 on more than a few occasions, but I found it an absolutely superlative golfing experience.
Played the Bracken on the Saturday which is a great second course, some very undulating greens which whilst tricky, also run very true which makes it a fair challenge.
As for the Hotchkin then it's everything you imagined. Easily the best heath land course I've ever played, and I suspect the best I will ever play. Yes it has some nasty bunkers and yes some of them are very steep. But you can get out of the vast majority of them assuming you are not up completely against the lip. Plus it made me think a lot more about my game which in turn meant I scored relatively well for me. So instead of me trying to shoot 190 yards on to a well guarded green which would more than likely end up with me in a bunker, I'd lay up and then play a short pitch shot on to the green and take the bogey.
Greens in superb condition and in addition to the pure golfing challenge, the course itself is really rather beautiful. All the staff we came across were very friendly. I must admit I was a bit apprehensive and nervous as my handicap is in the 20s, but they made me feel at home and very relaxed which only added to the great weekend.
Booked it through the Petwood hotel on a dinner b & b deal and for all that plus 2 rounds of superb golf it's excellent value for money. I would urge any serious golfer to play it at least once. The Course

Golf gone mental, if you are higher than a 5 handicapper don't bother as it is crucify you. The bunkers, well i say bunkers they are more like beaches with vertical walls, get in any of the bunkers besides the greens and you have had it. The bunkers make the course so tough, but there are some stunning holes on it. For what it is the price is too much there are far better courses that are much cheaper.

Did the weekend deal and played both courses. Was so blown away by the hotchkin that after a quick bite to eat we went in to the pro shop and payed a considerable sum to play it again.... straight away! The 2 courses work well together with the bracken a challange with very difficult greens but tollerant to way wood drives and the hotchkin with tight fairways and more sand than skegness beach! This place is awesome. Stayed at the woodhall spa hotel as part of the deal which was very good

Voted one of best inland courses in Britain... Can see why too, nomally you think of 4-5 good holes on a course after you've played it... This one has 18! Scary bunkers, excellent greens and great course layout really do make this one of Britains finest.

The Bracken is a good complement to the Hotchkin. More forgiving off the tee with wide and shallow bunkers (rather than deep and nasty!). However the greens are all undulating and not easy to read. Water is a feature on a number of holes making this an American style parkland type course.

Played on 27/9/2009, having played here 4 years previously. Everything about the place is fantastic. Friendly welcome, decent food/drink, good facilities. The Hotchkin is a great course but you must avoid slicing or fading off the tee - the fairway bunkers will get you each time and you then just have to concentrate on getting out! Condition of course was superb and the greens very true.

A very good course with full facilities. I played with a Member so green fees were very reasonable. A tight links style course, with very deep bunkers and tough heather. But very few "blind shots" and fair for straight hitters and the odd wayward one as not a lot of rough under the large trees.
Food and clubhouse is very good.
I will go again soon to try and hit my handicap on the course! The Course

Some of the pathways a bit boggy due to the weather, but the course in excellent shape and the greens superb, as challenging as always
