Hilton Puckrup Hall Golf Club
Puckrup Hall's par 70, 6,189 yard championship course was the proud host of the West Region PGA Championship from 1994 to 1996. Designed by the Golf Design Partnership, it was built in the original parkland of the Hall and brings into play many of its natural hazards. Each of the 18 holes was individually created to give variety and offer a stern but fair test of golf. The par 5, fifth hole measuring 531 yards requires two long and accurate shots to set you up for a birdie opportunity. Combine the three lakes and various tactically placed bunkers with the superb views of the Malvern Hills and you have one of the finest golf holes in Gloucestershire. The back nine is illuminated by strategic bunkering and fairways sculptured around doglegs, to culminate in the magnificent 18th. Measuring 200 yards over water, with the hotel as a backdrop, it is a finishing hole of top quality.

Location: Exit the M5 at Junction 8 onto the M50. Exit the M50 at Junction 1, and turn onto the A38 towards Tewkesbury. The hotel is situated approximately 200 yards on the right.

Greens, fairways and tees all in very good condition for the time of year, but all the bunkers were compacted hard sand. Pro-shop staff were very welcoming but £13 plus for four coffees in the hotel afterwards was rather taking advantage.

Very Good condition for the time of year. The course is interesting, with no hole similar. The club its self is well run, accomodating and friendly.

Interesting course but gets very busy at weekends. The first is a challenge to miss the trees other holes bring water hazards in to play. Greens feel a bit spongy under foot but very good value for money.

I played this course on Sunday and it was in very fine condition and I found the staff to be very helpful and accommodating. One of our 4 ball forgot their shoes and the golf shop kitted him out in a new pair at a very reasonable price. Highly recommended.

Very nice course with excellent greens and fairways. Well kept and a joy to play again and again. Membership for me being a junior is only £80 for the whole year. A bargain! Each hole is different.

very pretty setting and course in nice condition.I found it a very very easy course , pretty short and possible to really open your shoulders off the tee as there is not a lot of danger.

A fairly short course so the driver is not necessary on a lot of holes. There are a few long par fours chucked in there (3rd and 12th) to mix it up a bit though. Plenty of bunkers and some water to keep it interesting also. Always enjoy playing this course.

A very good and well looked after course when I played. Not too long, which is a bonus for a relatively short hitter in myself, however it is still very challenging with plenty of sand and water. My favourite hole is the showpiece par 3 18th where you hit over the lake and right in front of a patio area in front of the hotel. Only negative for me was it didn't represent great value for money at £30!

Played Puckrup (yellow tees) twice on weekend 15/16th July 06 and really enjoyed it. The course is short at 5901 yards off the yellows but this makes it all the more interested.
A slightly undulating course, there is a little water and some nasty long grass/clover rough, but the fairways are wide and bunkers are well placed to catch the average handicapper off the tee.
The length of most holes means the greens are reachable in regulation by even the shortest of hitters. However, it takes some thought and was great at punishing the "big" hitters in our group - definately accuracy over distance here. Fast greens (possible due to the patch of very hot weather we were having) and a fair bit of undulation made for challenging yet interesting green play.
I'd definately play this course again as it suits my style, but those ho like to knock 7 bells out of the ball on their drive need to be careful - if you have accuracy with the distance, you will be rewarded, but if not, take plenty of insect repellent as you'll spend a while in the deep rough.
Give it a go - but avoid the hotel if you can - they didn't have our dinner booked, gave us double instead of twin rooms, and generally looked like they really did not want to be there.
Oh, they changed the indexes in March but we got given cards from the previous year on day 1 - caused a few debates in the evening I can tell you! Check your cards to make sure you have the correct one - hole one is now SI 11, but was 10.Overall rating

A nicely laid out course undergoing some improvements to the drainage which will make it a more enjoyable experience. I will be returning in 2010 with our golf society.
