Things really looking up

Played here yesterday for first time since the summer and new owners have already made impressive changes with investment pretty evident. The already good greens are being improved further with drainage, fairways are getting lots of attention and overseed, and there are plans to improve the bunkers, range and clubhouse too apparently. Fairways in particular are already showing real improvement, though I was a bit surprised that a couple of small areas weren't marked as GUR to allow their recovery. Friendly welcome as always, and really good informative website now too which I think is so important these days. I look forward to returning in the spring and seeing even more improvements. Only negative was a 2 ball jumping in from nowhere on the 10th tee, not sure what the club can do though I've never seen a marshal here. Also, some warning signs for walkers would be worthwhile, especially across 5th and 6th holes.

Great natural drainage & improving course. Bunker renovation underway and course conditioning continues to improve. It'll never be the most inspiring layout but it's doing all the right things to reach it's potential I think. Very good place to play when it's wet elsewhere.

Hi Richard, great to hear you can see the improvements of last 2 years work, with the new riveted bunkers being installed across the course with modern carry distances in mind, it will soon be a challenge for all levels of golfer.

Course in great shape.
Temporary greens on the 1st and 18th whilst bunker repositioning and reconstruction works are in progress.

Steadily improving

Getting better with every visit. It's interesting to see what can be done with some investment in a course, and there appears to be more to come. I understand further fairway irrigation will be installed this winter and a bunker renovation undertaken too. In the meantime, the fairways are thicker and grassier than I've seen them here, not quite there yet but on the mend for sure. And the greens have improved too. Again, they can still get better but now in a good place and rolling nicely. Look forward to returning again and seeing the evolution of this course local to me.

Interesting course, friendly members but slow

The course is interesting, good layout and in fair condition. Friendly and welcoming members. Unfortunately the pace of play is slow. Policy is for four balls only, and the even though I played on a Thursday, the course was full, and the pace was around 4.5 hours. Worth playing if you have the time. Also, overpriced for what it is, but probably due to proximity to the centre of London.

Great setting not matched by standard of course

Beautiful setting but let down badly by really poor fairways. The greens and tee areas were pretty good but fairways were badly damaged and looked after in general. I would not have minded too much but at ?50 per round I expected better.

Probably in the top 5 worst courses I have ever played. Clearly they've spent all their money on the clubhouse and nothing on the course. They let anyone play. I'm all for people learning the game, but when everyone you see looks like they've never played before it gets a bit much.
Had to walk off after 13 holes. That was at the 5 hour mark.
The course is not in good condition. It should have been left as a deer park.

What a stunning course! Its a true test of golf. I started my round at Hampton court palace with low expectations but boy was I wrong. The course keeps you guessing the whole way round and punishes you when you don't think! Course management is the key to a good round at Hampton (I will be aware of this for next time as I made a few wrong choices on the front 9) The greens are lovely the rough is tough and the fairways run and run add the deer to this and it truly is a unique experience in London! if you are looking for a great round in Surrey look no further....

Played on 25/06/14 in a 4 ball, it was our first time at Hampton Court and had read some good and bad reviews before playing.

We where met at the Clubhouse by a senior member of staff who assisted us with QA's that we had.

We new after reading up that this course was not going to be the easy but we took the course in our stride, course management is key to this course.
You have to be straight so don't think about using your driver all the time.

The greens where in tip top condition along with the bunkers.

A great day was had by all, this is one course you should try.

Great value for money, great clubhouse with lovely food and great service.

With play here again

I just joined the club and find the reviews to be quite harsh. I have played golf for 30 years and my handicap has in the past been single figures, so I think I have seen enough courses to judge. The course is not up and down. If played from the white tees and depending on the wind some par 4s are very difficult to reach in two shots (I drive 250 to 275). There is a marked difference between the front and back nice. The front is more park land, and a couple of short par 4s. The back 9 is very similar to a links course. Being a member of a links course in the past I find this a pleasure so close to London. True the fairways are not good. This is because the course is not allowed irrigation systems on the fairways (rules from the Palace). The greens are OK but after a long weekend the holes do suffer and need to be re cut. The staff are really nice, and the club house has fantastic food (French chef).

Played Hampton court on the 16/09/13 lovely to see dear roaming around. Very boring up and down, the worst condition fairways I've ever seen bare none. The fairways were so bad I pulled off the 9th. Will not be returning. Handicap 12.

Enjoyable course with very good greens that are fairly well protected. Although I thought the Deer roaming around might be an annoying issue, it wasn't (quite the opposite)
