Just returned from a visit playing both the Nicklaus and Cheshire courses. If Jack paid a visit now there would be ructions as to the way his name is being represented. It is on low lying land and drainage is poor. The greens are an absolute disgrace. Full of moss, huge tine holes and poorly spread top dressing. It is a travesty of his design intentions. The course was fully booked and has to represent a triumph of marketing over product quality. Talking to other visitors it is clear there will be very few repeat customers. It looks like the owners are under-investing in the course or the Green Keepers are completely inept or both.
The Hotel and the food were pretty good though so if they can get it sorted it would be a venue worth visiting. The staff numbers at breakfast seemed low so they struggled to cope with clearing tables and the staff appeared to be poorly trained.
To be fair the Cheshire Course was a much better standard though the greens dressing again left something to be desired with extensive tine holes unfilled. The ratings are for the Nicklaus course. Cheshire would be Good.

Nice enough course but not very interesting to play. Greens were true but fast. If given the choice of the two courses here, play the Cheshire, a much better game of golf all round with some stunning views.

Not worth the price

My brother had to have a buggy, due to a knee problem. The buggies had to keep to the paths. They weren't allowed on the rough either side of the fairway. So with a buggy he did as much walking as I did with my trolley. Ridiculous

Improved Greens

I generally favour the Nicklaus as it tends to be in better condition but the Cheshire was in top order. i took a visitor as i often do who was charge £30 - i've never experienced that high cost before as you can pay that much without being intoduced. Reluctantly the club house refunded my friend the £10 i feel he was overcharged.

Scenic course

Fairways were in poor condition, probably due to the warm weather. Long walks between holes with poor signage.

Nicklaus is a hard course!

I don't think its as bad as the reviews i read before hand made out, but this is a very challenging course and I would advise against playing it without a buggy as the walks to each hole are quite long.

After playing here (cheshire course) few time this summer ive come to this conclusion:
Good track, some good features
Tee upto the green good condition but greens themselves look dried and over-worn on alot of holes,
Often too busy and overbooked (i undersaand its a resort though),
Pro shop decent and staff were pleasant.

They either need to stop letting so many large groups out at once or restrict times for visitors. One round which i started at 3:40pm took me close to 3hrs on front 9 it wasnt worth me going on back9 but fortunately was allowed to go back on the front 9 and it was clear and was around in way under 2hrs .

Morale of the story if your a visitor (in a small group) go when its very quiet and youll have a good day on a good track- or atleast avoid this course as a visitor during the month of august.
