Despite the bitter weather (played in March!) the courses always provide for good golf. The additional bolt on of excellent facilities is a huge factor in the sucess of this place. It was nice to go back up north to enjoy again.

Changed for the worst

Really disappointed with the condition of the Cheshire course having enjoyed playing a number of times previously. We spent time looking for balls in the first cut on most of the holes as the ball buried in grass which was too long which prolonged the round, Any grass surrounded by bunkers or in bunkers was long, thick and wispy one of our party lost his ball and another had to drop in the bunker because his ball was unplayable. The hotel needs to realize that it is a hotel course with groups visiting and they will take longer to complete their round anyway. I can envisage 5 and half hour rounds. Will not be visiting until this changes.

Played Nicklaus course the other day and if he came back and saw it for himself he'd be embarrassed. Th condition is a total joke! Greens absolutely full of moss and very very slow. Have to say it is a fantastic layout. Lots of risk reward holes and lots of holes with water running alongside fairways. The 6th is a great hole and the 17th is a great risk reward hole if you take it on! The course could be absolutely fantastic if they got some proper green staff and a bit of money into it!

played both courses last week with a group of friends and i can honestly say that they were the worst conditioned courses i have ever played!! So bad that when we returned home we complained but are still awaiting a satisfactory answer. Why so bad? Tees so far forward holes were mickey mouse, tee markers broken, playing off mats, fairways and surrounds on cheshire course as bare as a babys backside and covered in wormcasts, NO sand in bunkers, rakes with only 4 teeth, pins and hole cups that looked 5 years old, flags that had elastic bands around them so you could not pick them out (told they do that if its windy, not even a one club wind) now we come to the greens which were covered in disease (both courses) to the extent they were almost not worth putting on. They party i went with consisted of county players, agronomist, course manager and they all agreed on how bad it was, the course manager even commented that he would have been ashamed to work there and would have been sacked for imcompetance if it had been his course. This is not a very good advert for De Vere as a whole and we felt for the organiser who was a member of the De Vere club and who used his credits to gain a reduced green fee. Warning do not go there until next June a earliest in my professional opinion.

Overly long rough

course as good as usual on the whole but the semi rough was punishingly long and swallowed anything slightly off line. That's ok for tour players with ball spotters everywhere but is un-necessary for club golfers and is becoming prevalent in many courses now which makes many golfers less likely to return to play again.

Poor condition really

Given the weather we've had the course should be in far better condition than it was. Not helped by a group of absolute wankers infront of us!!!!!!

Tough course if you miss the fairway

We might have got an unfair view of this course. It was very wet due to recent rain.
First cut of rough was very punishing. Very deep and wet. Buggies restricted to cart paths. Long walk if you played to the other side of the fairway.
Greens very variable - not recovered since spiking.
Limited to playing the Cheshire course because the Nicklaus course was closed because it was too wet. Some players staying at the hotel were bussed out to other local courses because of the closure.

This doesn't look like it's a very well maintained course off the green. Rough is long and clump. Even if you can find your ball (and it would have to be on your knees) you will take a while to hit it out. Bunkers have the same long grass around the edge. Unless you're a low handicapper, I'd suggest to avoid this course. Oh and the Clubhouse carpet stinks of damp. Beer = £5.25 per pint.

Played here yesterday in a group of 8 golfers. Overall I don't think it's worth the price of £50. My biggest moan would be the greens - they were very poor and play was extremely slow with no course marshals moving slow players on. The bunkers were also poor with people not having raked them at all. Customer service could also be improved. I asked the starter which position the flags were in for the day (as they show an A to F grid on the card and he just said "Didn't they tell you in the shop". He had no idea and this was for a midday tee time.

Lack of investment and course care so apparent apart from construction of Tarmac buggy paths on the Cheshire course, overall very disappointing - won't be returning.
