Cocks Moors Woods Golf Club
Alcester Road South, Kings Heath, Birmingham, West Midlands, B14 4ER United Kingdom
Opened in 1926, this undulating woodland course can punish the wayward shot. This course can either leave you happy and contented or frustrated to the point of storing your clubs. Finding the fairway is an absolute must as there are many meandering streams around the course. The 1st is one of the holes that requires great care. On an elevated tee the brave can attempt to clear the stream with a wood leaving a small chip onto the green. For most you have to judge the wind and slope before you swing anything from a 5 to a 9 iron. The 12th hole rewards the bold with a good birdie or eagle opportunity - but beware - a stray drive out of bounds and you'll be lucky to avoid dropping a shot.Book a Tee Time

Played the course again today and I must say that the greens are now in very good condition! Much better than the last time I rated this course! Still get the stupid muppets on the course who have absolutely no golf etiquette whatsoever!!

Currently undergoing some work, but the course is essentially up one way, then back down the other side. 8th is a nice hole, the rest are pretty forgettable. We tried the course again after not playing it for a while, but nothing much has changed. Still distinctly average at best. Let's put it this way, if I was paying for a 7 day membership I'd be asking for a hefty discount.

For a winter fee of £10 I suppose it's ok but they really do need to invest in a lawn mower and get the greens cut!! It was like putting in the rough!

Was in excellent condition when I played in April and a lot of work has been done over the past year or so. Now rate this above Lickey Hills as the best municipal in my part of Birmingham.

Mix of open and tree lined fairways. The latter call for accurate driving off the tees. The par 3 5th and par 5 12th are the most interesting holes on the course.
A brook features on a number of the holes, ensuring that correct club length is selected.

Cocks Moors Woods is one of several excellently maintained municipal golf courses on Birmingham's Link Circuit. Described on their website as a "woodland" course, I have always found it to be in very good condition with fairways wide enough to tempt you to use your driver but enough hazards to make you think cautiously. It is attached to a leisure centre so facilities are aplenty with good food facilities and a bar. Oh and there is a brook which criss crosses the course and I've never managed to complete a round without hitting it at least once!

For a municipal course it was good, the greens could have been better if they had been cut.
The biggest drew back for me(I'm not a snob)there was no dress code what so ever there were children under 10 with no idea what so ever going round with there parents, never offered to let us through, no golf etiquette what so ever this course is not for the purest if your a serious golfer stay away. I will not be keen to return.
