Cyber Golf Monday

By: Darren Ramowski | Mon 28 Nov 2011

Well today is officially Cyber Monday but what about Cyber Golf ? can golf and use of the internet & technology improve your game ?  This evening on the gadget show in the UK, @GadgetPolly will be seeing how fast her golf can progress over 8 weeks with some practice and technology before taking on a local Pro.

If anyone's read Malcolm Gadwell's book Outliers the secret to success is marginally related to the 10,000 hour rule with practice making perfect if you spend at least 10,000 hours doing it.  We'd all love to spend 10,000 hours playing golf but in reality this would take 5.47 hours every day for the next 5 years!

Similar challenges have been set, including my own 90 in 90 days, but more notably and documented in the book Dream On by John Richardon who set the challenge or breaking par in a year.  John set himself the challenge in 2004 having struggled to break 100 and then set about hitting 70,000 golf balls over 363 days before finally recording a one under round of 70.  More recently Novice2scratch set himself the target of going from complete novice to scratch golfer over a year but despite 100s of rounds finished on a respectable +16 with a best round of 76.

If you are looking to be the best of the best and time and money is no object then below we take a lot at some of the golf and technology available, ignoring all things golf clubs and golf balls though.

Online Golf Tuition

What golf coaching can you get online?

Mobile Golf Tutition Apps

Yes you can now learn direct from your smartphone, iPhone or iPad.

Indoor and at Home Golf

All vary in price from the affordable to the pricey or just pop along to your local indoor golf centre.

Technology to know your distance

No more thinking you hit 250 yards when it really only goes 200 yards.  Golfers have more choice than ever when it comes to distance measuring devices, all which conform within the rules of golf.

Plus if you are worried about losing the ball then check out the Prazza Golf Ball.

Getting Around on the Course

Golf buggies, electric golf trolleys and push golf trolleys have been around for a while but I do like the look of the segway golf trolley.  Not sure I fancy wearing a helmet though!
