Good course but a bit wet!

Attended with a society last year but couldn't play this course as it was too wet. Got on it this year but it was quite wet in places. Most of the greens were well maintained and pretty quick. Some of the holes were challenging and I?d love to play here on a hard track to accept a better challenge. There were some beautiful holes to play, 18 especially. Give it a go if you get the chance

Nicklaus - very nice

A good course, well laid out with a good mix of straightforward & some testing holes. I particularly liked 7 & 15 where the brook across the fairway makes you think strategically.
The greens were good, but the bunkers were mostly awful.
Of the two courses, this was in slightly better condition, but I do prefer the layout of the Cheshire, especially the back 9.
For £20 before 8am, you can't really complain

On reflection

Apologies I missed this out; on reflection, the course is far better and beyond my capabilities and therefore offers little as a challenge. I would imagine those far better than I would think differently, the course is setup for the better player.

Just enjoy it, take it for what it is and appreciate the finesse.

Walk on past the Nicklaus and tee up on the Cheshire

That title seems really unfair and I feel slightly guilty for saying it; but it's true.

The Nicklaus course is great, the 2nd cut rough is a golf ball hiding monster. That being said I only lost one to the mischievous growth. The bunkers are huge and enticing, card killers and beautifully filled with the softest of sand. Thankfully I only saw these as I walked on by, feeling thankful that the bucket and spade can stay in the bag.

The fairways are wider than the Cheshire and there are more strategic bunkers throughout. Apparently, the reasons and requirements for a championship award. Chatted the man in the halfway house, who seemingly offered the same trail of thought and some what disappointed that the Nicklaus seems the poor cousin to the Cheshire course.

It felt long, very long, my feet were aching by by the end of it, trolley, not carrying, similar length to the Cheshire but I never felt that tired playing the Cheshire course.

Some great features, the 17th over the water and I think the 6th with a similar angle of attack. Other than those two, nothing really exciting.

I wanted to love the Nicklaus, I've been looking forward to playing it for months. Sadly I feel let down and I hate myself for thinking it, even more for typing it. I wanted it to be so much more, after playing the Cheshire my expectations were at 100,000 ft.

My top tip: Ignore the yellow tees and play off the whites; it's too short otherwise and offers no challenge at all.

Play it as a bucket list and immediately play the Cheshire to wash your sins away.

Enjoy; try and love it; take it in and then appreciate it for what it is and the man who designed it. If I played it again I know I could bring that score down; a thought process I couldn't attribute to the Cheshire. I so wanted to love this course, but it just doesn't excite me or provide any sort of challenge. Yes, I am a 28 handicap, 21 if you take GolfShake into consideration, but this wasn't a tough course and the next time, if I played this course again, it would be off the white tees or even the blue.

My only grievance, this really irritated me, one of the greens man were cutting the fairways, I had to wait for 5 mins for this chap to clear the 2nd and then another 10 mins (standing on the tee) on the 3rd fairway. Thankfully he never appeared again; I understand that these chaps need to do their job and I was out at 0745, but I expect a little awareness and common sense.

I paid £20.50 on tee off times, great deal, I'd be feeling even more disappointed if I paid full price.

Carden Park: I ticked, no I wouldn't play again, only because of the course and how disappointed I was in comparison to the Cheshire. Everything else is perfect, well done people.
