I really enjoyed playing my golf and the course was in a very good condition and I will recommend you to play at Heythrop park.

Lovely course, reasonable hotel

I don't often leave reviews but hopefully I can say something helpful about Heythrop.

Firstly, the setting is fantastic. If you like golf to be quiet and away from main roads, then it definitely ticks that box. However, as others have noted, it is very expansive, and a long walk. We played a round behind some older golfers, and it took 5:20 (yes, five hours and twenty minutes).

The review before this one mentioned the condition of the course - I don't know what it would have been like in April but I know that lots of courses have been struggling, perhaps as a knock-on effect of lockdowns. All I can say is that of the 5-6 courses I have played this year, Heythrop was in by far the best condition.

As for the holes themselves, we thought they were almost all fantastic. Nearly all of them give you some kind of visual challenge or interest from the tee box. Others have mentioned the 18th, which is an arrow-straight par 5 up to the mansion, and visually unlike any other hole I have seen, but there are many others, not all of them straightforward.

The hotel feels a little odd. We all commented on this and later found out that it used to be a Jesuit education college (!), which perhaps explains the feeling of the place, as well as the small size of the rooms. The food was reasonably good, although I would avoid the steak, which was of poor quality and poorly cooked (although this is clearly very easily remedied!). I should add that the package we booked gave us a very generous food allowance of £32.50 per person per day. The odd feeling was exacerbated by the difficulties they are clearly having with staffing at present. The "pro shop" closed at 5:30 every day. On our arrival day, we wanted a drink and some food at 10:30, to be told that none of the bars or restaurants were open, having closed at 10, and would only re-open at 11. Hopefully this is also something that they will be able to remedy in the future, too.

Very slow play

Started at 12.30 finished at 5.30 behind 3 x 4 balls playing texas scramble. No control by the club, no warden. Basically tough. £60 for myself and my wife. Day ruined.

Lots of really good holes

Really nice course with some different and challenging holes. Will definitely play again. Only slight downside is some parts of the course feel neglected. Overall though would highly recommend

Lads weekend.

Three of us went for a one night ,two rounds of golf. Lovely course, quite challenging for us higher handicap players, but still a great experience. Would love to play there again. ( And will do).

Good course - great scenery.

An interesting course with a deceptively easy start both physically and golf-wise . As the course progresses it becomes significantly more undulating with longer walks green -tee and the course toughens to ease off again at the end with a very long but flat and straight 18th hole with a superb view of the mansion. Torrential rain beforehand meant some muddy trails off piste.

A long slow walk

Started at 230pm, finished at 730. Very slow pace of play, lots of long walks between holes which ruined the round and the course for me. The course is interesting and very tough. Many blind shots which makes it tricky for a visitor. Wonderful views of house. Pro shop is not well stocked or staffed!

Great course needs some tlc

Heythrop is a really interesting course lots of holes that are different. Course in need of some tlc. Tee boxes very bare but greens and fairways were in good condition. Golfers need to back this course during the tough Covid times I hope they all do
