John G. Glendale, CA rated 4.5 out of 5

John G.

I was invited to play by a friend who won a foursome here in a silent auction. I was very excited to play a private course I couldn't otherwise get on. My friend paid around $800- so $200 a round. I thought my expectations would be high and I would be let down... particularly for a course so far out of L.A. Not so! Easily one of the nicest and best conditioned courses I have played in Southern California. The greens was smooth and fast- no ball marks. Fairways were like carpet and the rough perfectly mowed. It was so green with no bad areas. Tough track.. a short quirky course, I guess it was built in the 1890's) but with small greens and challenging approach shots. Was allowed in the clubhouse afterwards. Beautiful place. Had to verify who we were, but great service even though we weren't members. Just had bar food in the bar, but some of the dinners served at nearby tables looked really excellent. The members we met were very nice and welcoming and one even bought us drinks. Don't know if I could afford to be a member... and I heard there is a very formal process to join, but I don't live in the area anyway. Would love to go back and play it again, though.
