The Montgomerie is a first class club and course and is my favourite of the courses I have played in Dubai. The service both on and off the course is superb and the course itself provides an interesting challenge. The round starts of fairly easily with a couple of shortish par 4's. Two memorable holes are the par 3 13th and the par 5 18th. The 13th green is almost completely surrounded by water and (uniquely?) there are numerous tee locations so the hole can play differently depending on which angle you are approaching from. It is said that the green - which is/was shaped to look like the shape of the UAE - is the biggest in the world although I think they may have reduced its size since the course opened. It's worth noting however that from most angles the green is larger and deeper than it looks from the tee. The 18th is, in my opinion, the hardest hole on the course if the wind is blowing anything but directly towards the green. Your drive from the elevated tee (again there are two different teeing locations) needs to carry water and avoid water left and right of the main fairway. There is a more direct route down another narrow strip of fairway which shortens the hole slightly but this is surely only for the very brave/accurate. An easier second shot is then played into a wider fairway area unless you go for the green in two (at 567 yards it would take two superb strikes!) when you have to carry another smaller patch of water into a green which is broad but not very deep. Overall its a superb golfing experience but one that is best sampled during the cooler 'winter' months!
