Woodlands Manor Golf Club

Woodlands Manor Golf ClubFirst time visitors to Woodlands Manor always remember The Eiger, the famous short tenth hole. It looks relatively easy on the scorecard at just 151 yards. However, the tee shot plays dramatically uphill to a green that's just 13 yards deep. It's a hole where even scratch man or woman is delighted to walk away with a par. In a society stableford, for example, card a two and you will likely gain a shot on the field. Par the hole in the match play and, nine times out of ten, you've won the hole. Ready for the challenge? A brilliant par-3 is the 18th, 200 yards over a road to a small green 110 feet below the tee! The hole offers a fitting finale but also provides perhaps the best views on the course. Club selection here is tricky but a well-struck and well-executed shot provides the opportunity for a par or a even an extremely satisfying two. Interesting, Varied, and Enjoyable Par 5s and Par 4s Await at Woodlands The best par-5 at Woodlands might be the 2nd at 489 yards. With firm conditions and a tailing wind, you may be tempted to get the driver out and find the narrow fairway. If the gamble pays off, you may again be tempted to try to retch the green. But it's a risky shot with a pond and bunkers to navigate. It's a hole that could be the start of a great round. After the challenges of the starting holes at Woodlands, the course offers plenty of scoring opportunities where better and even "average" golfers can hunt for a birdie or two. Successfully drive the par-4 4th, just 282 yards, and you could card an eagle or birdie. The 11th, is a shorter par-4 at 322 yards; however, you'll need a solid drive then a cunning pitch to set up a birdie putt. A series of fascinating par-4s follow punctuated by the magnificent 18th hole. Originally laid out in 1924 and opened by Henry Cotton, Woodlands Manor is a golf course with character and challenge. It's also a tremendously fair golf course.

Golf course review of Woodlands Manor Golf Club

Customer care from pro shop was excellent. Really nice course to play although the PAR 3 10th and PAR 3 18th are a bit freakish. Both up the side of a hill. Really enjoyed this course though and would certainly like to play again in the summer

Golf course review of Woodlands Manor Golf Club

Interesting and challenging course with a couple of surprises that one does not often find in modern "commercial" courses. A members club that allows Green Fees.
Surprisingly easy to play on Green Fees. Cheaper on a Monday and, if booked via online sites, cheap Monday through Thursday. Oh, and one more thing on online tee times; unlike some courses, Woodland offers many online tee times per day, not just one or two.
Generally not too hard to find a wayward shot on most holes. Surprises: the 10th par 3 "Eiger" is on a very steep upslope to the green, you must use your head think about what the books say; the 18th par 3 "Road" is over a road and downhill as far as the Eiger was up.
Some greens need more water and look brown in places.
So, in conclusion well worth playing especially if you get the Green Fee online.

Golf course review of Woodlands Manor Golf Club

Very very muddy on the fairways which meant lots of mud was carried into the greens. In the summer this would be a great course to play very pretty with some great views.

Golf course review of Woodlands Manor Golf Club

An interesting course with an extremely high par 3, you are literally looking up too it from the tee. Very difficult to work out what club to use!! Down side was the green fees, quite expensive and a lot of the greens had lots of unrepaired pitch marks which you wouldnt expect from a private course.

Golf course review of Woodlands Manor Golf Club

I can't decide how I feel about this course. It has a lovely setting, with some top views to be had, and the facilies are good. There is also a big club scene here if that's what you're looking for. The course is set half in a valley and half on a hilltop, with the transition holes being the 9th - steep up - and 18th - steep down. The course can get quite muddy in winter, but plays well in summer. I think I'd like it better if I had a good score there. It is also cheap to play.

Golf course review of Woodlands Manor Golf Club

Even though there was a mixture of rain, sun, sleet and heavy winds I really enjoyed playing this course. The variety there is in the different holes keeps the round interesting from start to finish. There are five par threes which should help towards a low score and there is nothing over 500 yards (off the yellows) which should also help. The course was in excellent condition and the greens were superb as well, even with the bad weather. Unfortunately the bar and restaurant were closed by the time we finished the round (17:30) so can't comment on the service but I would definately recommend having a round (watch out for the water on 13).

Nice parkland country course with a strong front 9 let down by a rather quirky back 9. Although a very enjoyable round.

An interesting course. The steep uphill 10th is a real killer for those with walking difficulties - take a buggy.

Golf course review of Woodlands Manor Golf Club

Parkland course on which the first nine at least looks as though it is in a park. Signature hole is the par 3 18th where the tee is 100 feet above the green and where, in my view, it's better to be too long but don't go right. Back nine not as well manicured as the front holes.

No range. Grass practice area.
