I played a round on a drizzly Monday in November; every Monday the green fee is a bargain ?15. I saw maybe three other games on the course; it was ghostly quiet.

I used to be a member here in the mid-2000's; circumstances meant the membership and my golfing lapsed. So I know the course from those days.

It's a fine, tight track and pretty testing. The greens - though pretty slow - were smooth, consistent, and deeply flattering to my short game. Fairways had some small muddy patches, but that's to be expected at this time of year. Generally the course drains pretty well.

It's not a course that encourages you to let rip with the driver. Though there are some holes where the big stick can get a workout, there are more where a premium is placed on accuracy. Several holes are a real "thinking" challenge; simply hitting the ball as far as you can off the tee then working out the next shot will get you in trouble.

Notable holes:

The par 3 second. It's a mid/long Par 3, with the green slightly higher than the tee. If the course sloped gently up, it'd be easy - but the crater/chasm in front of the tee plays havoc with the mind.

The 3rd; a short par 4 with a big risk/reward tee shot. Thread a ball through a gap 180 yards distant and you have a short pitch to the green; lay up and it's a blind wedge/short iron.

The 9th - par 4 dogleg. It's all about getting a decent angle for the second shot through a tight avenue of trees to a well-protected green. And the terrain you have to land your ball in is links-style rolling turf, invisible from the tee.

13th - long par 4, S.I.1. To play it as a two-shotter, you have to drive over trees and OOB to a blind fairway; a fade would be useful. If you go for three shots, you can still score; the raised green at the end is pretty benign.

17th - par 5. An S-shaped hole with a downhill tee shot. The aggressive play from the tee is blind again, over a thick wood. The fairway is in a lovely little valley, with the River Brent hidden by trees on the left. I've never known the river come into play; take away a few trees, make it visible, and I'd bet it would....

18th - par 4. Tee boxes well back from the fairway, and you have to find the right spot on the fairway to open up the dogleg left to the green.

It's in a pretty urban location, with a small tower block overlooking the 13th, and the sounds of roads, the train line to the West Country, and a distant Heathrow are a constant. That said, it's appealingly bucolic in places, with decent mature woods and a lively little lake. From some points on the course, the views across the Brent Valley could almost be out in the countryside.

Cheap and cheerful

Course was a little shabby around the edges but greens and tees were well maintained and all amenities were available. Cheaper green fees than some other courses although was still clear. Two of us got around (2pm tee) within three hours and were in the bar from 5:15. Not a strategic or challenging course but some interesting par threes and nice long par fives. Greens were very quick. Great to visit and enjoyable round with friendly staff.

Glad I took the chance to visit

First visit - in good condition for the time of year. A varied and tricky corse but really enjoyable - don't remember seeing benches (got a bit tired!)

Played here yesterday; £35 for unlimited golf on a midweek day.
Pros: - Excellent value for money, well maintained track, good quality bunkering, fast (in places v fast) greens.
- Course has a good mix of driving holes, par 5s, reachable par 4s and a host of par 3's. Plenty of challenge abounds; some tough bunkers to get stuck in, difficult rough and tight tee shots to contend with. That said, I played pretty much to handicap and felt that for most of the holes I was in with a chance.
- Members very friendly, several made a point of asking if i enjoyed my round, felt somewhere I would be made v welcome as a member
- Bar food and pricing excellent. Good ingredients, friendly bar staff, Sky TV, all very positive indeed.
- Felt like I was in a nature reserve. Yes, you do have to cross a main road twice and there are a few flats in the eyeline; but for 90% of the time it feels like you've ended up in a remote woodland somewhere, very peaceful and lots of rabbits/wildlife about.

Only con: A few holes are a little close together and so balls flying across the fairways/criss-cross players can be a little unrelaxing.

Overall a friendly, welcoming, great value track

Golfshake Team ReviewQuite an interesting course this.

Urban Jungle springs to mind as the sourroundings are flats and main roads, but on the course its a nice quiet and relaxed round of golf.

No too long a course but give a real nice test, most holes seem short, apart from the par 3's with one at over 200 yards.

Realy friendly welcome, at the moemnt the free drink offer after the round is most welcome.

The only downside to this course is if your playing for the first time without a course guide some hole can be hard to find your way around as the course is very compact with public footpaths running through it.

I was working in the area so played one evening and if I was back in the area I would visit again.

Great layout, excellent condition

I played this course for the first time in around 35 years and it did not disappoint. Fantastically designed holes, greens in tip top condition and great weather. It's not long (par 69) but will get you thinking carefully about each shot. Also managed to get my green fee for £21 on www.teetimes.co.uk A real bargain round on a totally interesting course.

Great Course

Just played with some work mates. Amazing course, so varied with each hole offering something different. Not really for beginners as it's quite challenging but I simply can't wait to go back. Very reasonably priced for a Thursday afternoon. In fact I thought the Pro might have mucked up but apparently not. I've played nearly all the local course now and this one one is head and shoulders above the rest.

Really nice course with plenty of different challenging holes. I think with a bit more attention to detail it could be a great course. Bunkers full of stones.

Great course, fantastic lay out. A real challenge for all standards of golfers. If you play to your handicap here you’ve played well. If a member, your handicap will stand true on 90% of courses you play.

Lovely to see the green staff out on the course working hard clearing trees and generally tidying the course up after a long winter.

Greens in great condition considering recent weather and from experience become very fast and true throughout the summer.

Lovely practice putting green and nets as expected with nice down to earth members.

Green fees and membership are excellent. Offers available not to be missed.

Will either join or visit regularly again.
