What the club says: The renowned golf course architect Donald Steel said "Only in Britain can one sample the true flavour of seaside golf of which West Lancashire is a perfect example"
West Lancashire has been a final qualifying course for The Open in 1976, 1983, 1991, 1998, 2006 and most recently in 2008. In 1976 four young professionals competed in the final qualifier at West Lancasire - Nick Faldo, Berhard Langer, Sandy Lyle and Ian Woosnam - all went on to win the coveted "Green Jacket" of the US Masters.
The Club's place in history is assured as it has its name on The Amateur Championship trophy, one of the 24 clubs that contributed to the cost of the trophy when the competition was first established in 1885. The first winner was Alan Macfie a West Lancashire member. The club also has a notable record for ladies golf too, for in 1891 The West Lancashire Ladies Club was formed, the first of its kind in South West Lancashire.
Superb links course in a special part of the country for links courses. Nice varied layout which presents a decent test and challenge which is a joy to play.
Lots of pot bunkers which I managed to avoid and some tough greens with contours and lots of run offs but in A way condition running true and fast. Bunker and fairways were also in great condition and first cut of rough not to testing but go any wider and it will be tough which you would expect.
The views from pretty much the whole course are fantastic with a view out to the sea/estuary. There is also something nice about a railway link running alongside a golf course.
Well worth a visit. A real test of your golf.
Course is in brilliant condition, greens are superb. Pure links course and can be windy so need a range of shots to cope

When uploaded to your site the SI isn't same n pars aren't either on all holes.
(Round played: Mar 2017 - Score: 85 Handicap: 11.4) brilliant golf course. Very challenging in wind. Love set out
Great course, terrible weather to begin. One of few courses where it's possible to play throughout the year. Exclusive membership and high per round cost ensures it isn't overplayed but, to my mind this, a mistake.......however!!

Punishing rough needs to be avoided as once in you'll have to take your medicine even if you find your ball which wouldn't be easy.

great course nice views a shame that the greens had been vandelised

I feel that the back 9 is the stronger as after a bland 10th, the memorable holes come thick and fast. The par 3 12th and par 4 13th are my favourites - usually played into the wind. Oddly enough, compared to my home links, there is not a trace of gorse on the course. Members and Staff very helpful.
(Round played: Feb 2014 - Score: 108 Handicap: 0)
Course was in amazing condition as was the weather. Couldn't believe we had warm sunshine and little wind (until the last few holes). Course is not the longest but has narrow fairways, lots of very strategically placed bunkers and rough that you will be lucky to find a person in never mind a golf ball. All in all it is an excellent challenge for players of the highest abilities.
Facilities we very good, Pro shop very helpful, everyone very welcoming.
Can't comment on value for money as it was a comp rather than a private round.
Top tip - if you are playing in a comp bring plenty of spotters - we had 4 and we needed them all!
