Wensum Valley Golf Club
The Valley Course, par 72, demands accuracy off the tee and skill on the undulating greens. The Championship Wensum Course, par 72, by contrast requires length off the tee and has smaller well protected greens, some with water, that need accuracy to score well.
Alternatively you may choose our 9 hole golf course at nearby Mattishall with its long narrow fairways. Contact Information

I like playing at Wensum valley. Very friendly club with 2 great courses. The Wensum course is longer with plenty of water where as the Valley Course, is a little shorter and more parkland in style. The greens are better on the Wensum course. My only gripe is the 17th on the Valley Course. Its a Micky Mouse hole out of character with the rest of the course.
However Wensum Valley offers 2 courses at excellent value for money. £15 a round in the afternoon at the moment on either course.
There is an excellent bar and restaurant as well.

Played the championship course and was excellent. Very dry but was tough, really have to think your way around the course as anything off line is lost ball!!! Facilities were excellent as well, highly recommend.

Played Wensum Course. The greens furtherest from the club house were dreadful with bare patches and tufted bits. Putting was a lottery on these greens. On one green my approach shot hit one of the bare patches and took the top off - Shane Warne would have licked his lips at the thought of bowling on that sort of surface.
The course is spectacular with great views and some interesting and challenging holes.
Just a shame they can't abstract some water from the many water hazards to keep the greens in better nick. I think they will take quite some time to recover.
Round was 25 including a bar meal. The Course

Played the Valley Course and I felt that it needed a bit of TLC. Many of the bunkers had quite a few stones in them. Just off the fairways the rough was quite snaggy with a lot of clover. If you are a bit wild off the tee then the rough is really deep. I lost three balls but found two.
Despite the above it was good value for 20 pounds. The Course

Wensum is probably my favourite course (it actually boasts 2, the Valley and the Wensum). I generally play the Valley course which does exactly what it says and meanders through the valley of the River Wensum. Lots of sloping fairways and undulating greens giving plenty of interest throughout the round. This is a course where a good score seems constantly to elude you but somehow always lures you back for more punishment.
The adjoining hotel offers good facilities for a weekend stay and good food in either the bar or the restaurant. Normal green fees of £25 includes a voucher of £8 for food in the bar which makes the whole package good value to me.
I would recommend anyone who finds themselves in the Norwich area to seek this course out.The Course

A course that is forgiving from tee to green. Well kept but difficult greens on this established course are the make or break factor to your round here.On many Tees you are greeted with a view of a panoramic vista across the valley. Those with cool heads and steely temperament can do well here, and who knows, prove themselves a worthy champ in any competetion. Highly recommended for weekend societies which are always welcomed.

A course that tests your accuracy and distance as you negotiate the many water hazards that are formed from the River Wensum thats runs through it. The Wensum Valey Golf and Country club is located just north west of Norwich in Norfolk near the village of Taverham. The club has 2 courses - the 6942 par 72 Wensum course and the 6223 yard par 72 Valley course .
The Wensum course is the harder of the two courses with a number of the holes having significant water hazards. The Valley course only has one hole with water adjacent and is more of a parkland course - it does have many bunkers however and is sited on the side of a hill.
I played the Valley course on 3rd March 2007 after many weeks of intermitant heavy rain and heavy rain the night before. The course was in superb condition. No winter greens. No winter tees/mats. The fairways whilst cut longish were dry, hard and the ball actually rolled on them and the greens were better than many I have seen in summer.
We tee'd off at 09.48 and completed our round in 4.5 hours without hassle from behind and keeping up with those in front. The green fees were £25 which included a voucher worth £8 redeemable in the hotel on food. The bar meals were excellent as was the service. The proshop was well stocked, the staff were chatty and helpful and the facilities included changing rooms and showers of ample size.
I would thoroughly recommend the club and both courses.Overall rating
