Needs more sand

Where to start. Recent hollow tined looks like it’s been done by a child who was born without hands. Clearly there isn’t a proper green keeper as they would need lining up and flogging for the pathetic attempt. Probably 80% of the holes don’t have sand in them. I would recommend that the green keeper at least buy a book on green keeping or watch a few tutorials on the subject.

the bunkers would make you weep. Barely any raked. Some have sand. Some don’t. Some have rakes…some don’t. Those that don’t have sand will usually leave you walking away from the hole with a blob. Clearly the owners aren’t bothered about making an effort to show
Off their course as it has the potential to be a fantastic course.

They seem quite content to let people play in football tops and not strict dress code so this makes you think the owners don’t care whose playing as long as they are making some £££

The layout is challenging. There are some beautiful holes which could almost tempt You to become a member. I’ve played in a society day there and it’s a course that makes you think.

Just needs some one whose passionate about golf to take it over and give it some love

Don’t waste your money playing this course

The course has a good layout, but is in poor condition, many greens have ring disease, the fairways are solid akin to a carpark and the bunkers have many weeds in and are solid with little sand. The tee boxes need care and attention soil boxes might be an idea. For saying it is near a river you would also think they would be able to put water in the ball washers. If I owned this course I would be embarrassed by the state of ot

Played for the first time here and enjoyed it. We paid £15 for an afternoon tee off. On arrival the club house and facilities were excellent and the staff at reception were excellent, really friendly and helpful. We had booked and paid for three online but one had to drop out and they gave us a refund/ voucher for the spare round without even having to ask, which was very good of them. They also do make a point of checking the dress code when you sign in for the 18 hole course.

The shop is huge and the bar seemed good although the beer was expensive. The menu seemed reasonable although we did not eat. We had a warm up on the driving range which is excellent.

As for the course is well maintained the greens are fast but consistent and in quite good condition. The course is generally flat as you would expect with the fairways in a variable state in places. The tees are vg. The first 6 or 7 holes are a bit dull, but as you move closer to the river the water features kick in with some tricky holes and a few with real character, 8 and 9 are fun. There are some nice views of the river valley as you walk round. It was a nice day for us, but on a cold grey day it could be a bit dismal and dull, I suspect wind will also normally be an issue in base of the valley which adds to the challenge.

We will definately play again, but It's somewhere to tick off of the list and visit occasionally for us.

They need a Greenkeeper badly

Played this course yesterday, 16/4/22 with some friends as its a good meeting point for us.
For layout, length, difficulty, interest, its got pretty much everything, and could be a really nice course.
Tee boxes were ok, nothing to write home about or knock, fairways/rough/bunkers all seemed pretty decent tbf.
But then the Greens.... oh my days. utterly pointless trying to putt on them. Overbaked, brown/soil patches in places where there is no hint of grass, clearly been hollowtined recently but not done correctly as sporadic holes on them.... just an embarrassment tbf

It has the potential, it really does, but the greens were that bad its just not worth playing in my opinion. Unless you just want to mess around putting and work on the rest of your game??

decent course, lots of water!!

First time playing this course. First hole is a decent par 5, then the next 5 holes are a bit sketchy, feels like you're playing in a field. from 8 on wards though it turns into a cracking course. good variety of hole and 17 is brilliant. lots of water so you need to keep it straight. greens were in good condition so worth another visit.

Great Value

Jumped on here whilst I was working in the area as it was local and only ?20 in the afternoon.

Fairly open from the tee - couple of internal OOB to watch out for as a lot of the adjacent fairways are fairly close to each other.

Bunkers well placed from the tee and in good condition and the green were really good too.

Might not pose the toughest test but definitely worth a visit if you are local or passing and will be a good game for any ability.

Canalside 9 holes

Neat and challenging 9 hole layout. despite the atrocious weather that has plagued the area this winter it was playable and in surprisingly good condition. Much praise needs to go to the green-keepers.

NB you might want to update this questionnaire see below where you refer to 2017!!!

Good value at 10 pounds as usual. Trent Lock course played well despite a couple of squally showers and gusty winds, which added to the difficulty. Back to back par 5s on the back 9 always ruin my card. Shoot around 45 on the front 9 and you will break 100 easily.

As a 9 hole course goes, i was very surprise how good this one was. for the big hitters, theres always trouble wjth the fair lined trees so its always advisable to get the big stick out.

I`d suggest you take a gps with you as there seems a lack of yardage markers, tho all in all, only £8.50 for 9 holes is well worth it, very enjoyable day had by all.

New signing & guides are nice. Plenty of bins & ball cleaners. The new 16th green will be nice when open and ensure most look to the back of the green when pitching in and the 18th as nice as ever as the sun goes down.
