What the club says: Bangor St. Deiniol Golf Club has a backdrop of Snowdonia, Anglesey and the Menai Strait, St Deiniol Golf Club must have some of the most exhilarating views you could ever wish to experience on a golf course. The mature 18 hole course covers 120 acres of contoured grassland overlooking the historic, cathedral city of Bangor.

Bangor golf

Visiting north Wales with clubs and tried this course. Stunning views from some of the holes. Tight course lots of ups and downs placement is key to a good round but easy to lose sight of your ball. Course in good condition for this time of year. Very friendly and welcoming.

Lovely course

A little gem we found that was dog friendly. But very hilly and tight, a tad more difficult than it implies!

Great Winter Golf

Played on a perfect winter day with amazing views over the Mountains, Bangor City and the Great Orme. It is quirky and there are a lot of holes where you are hitting over markers. While most parkland courses are seas of mud, the fairways here are dry and almost in their summer condition, no need to wear waterproof trousers. Greens slowish but were true. Great and bargain venue for winter golf.

What a challenge!

Very very windy and hilly. Difficult to navigate and Too many Blind holes for the first timer, even with the course guide.

Played Bangor twice and couldn't be happier. They couldn't be nicer or more helpful throughout the club.

The course though is one of the most under-rated I've played. It's challenging, in great condition, has fantastic views and is just a thoroughly enjoyable place for a round of golf.

Can't recommend it highly enough and can't wait to play it again!

An ancient hill-top layout that could hold its own against any as the most scenic course in the UK. With magnificent vistas to the Snowdonia mountains, down the coast and over the Menai Straits to Anglesey itself, the scenery needn’t be a distraction here, just a wonderful addition to what is a unique and natural layout. The cat has been let out of the bag lately as the club has been one of the driving forces behind the creation of the Welsh ‘James Braid Trail’, a collection of the masterful golf course designer’s ten courses that are spread across the north of the country. A trademark of his design is his ability to incorporate the natural features of the landscape and topography to generate interesting and individual characteristics throughout the course. Bangor St. Deiniol is a perfect example of this with rocks and burrows that have blended into the fairways over the 107 years of its history. The holes at the furthest extremity of the course are stunning with gorse lined fairways and bumps and rolls that make course management a pre-requisite. The 14th is like no hole you will play anywhere else: a 528 yard par 5 with two blind shots before you get sight of the green then a daunting approach over a ravine to a raised green makes this one of the toughest holes in North Wales.

Played on a extremely windy day which pretty much made it impossible to shoot a good score. But that didn't ruin the magnificent views on the course, and the course itself was diverse and well kept.

Quite a challenging course, if only to get round on the fairways! A driver isn't always the answer on this one. Unfortunately the pro-shop was closed when we arrived and we couldn't get a stroke-saver which is an absolute must on this hilly track overlooking Bangor and Snowdon. In overall good nick, especially the greens which were quite fast and true. Mind the gorse which is a killer!

The course is very challenging - make sure you stay on the fairways and avoid the rough and the gorse. Greens are immaculate and run quite fast. Spectacular views of Snowdon mountains and over to Anglesey as the course winds around Bangor Mountain. The small but friendly pro shop is nearly always open, but not necessarily the bar, though there is a coffee machine available at all times. Well worth the visit. (July 2009)
