Not really one of my favourite courses, although it is usually in decent nick once you get to the warmer months. I generally think it's a little too tight for me in places, such as at the 5th or 13th, and the 17th is pretty much written off during the winter to be replaced by a par 3.
Also, once you do find the rough the grass can make finding your ball a nightmare. Get a few groups with similar issues and you can be looking at a fairly lengthy round, such as the round I played this evening.
There are some nice holes here though and you can get a decent deal for your green fee.

£12 a round and only £18 for a buggy. The course is very forgiving and the greens are the best i have played this year, some would double as a carpet. The clubhouse food leaves a lot to desire and the buggy ran out of juice on the 15th. As it was my first round there not too bad overall. Took us about 5 mins to find the first tee though, put a sign up by the clubshop.

I booked my round off the internet for £10 per person. (If I had waited it would have been £5). The greens are immaculate; they are so true that you had total confidence in your game. On the down side was that the club shop was shut so had no chance of purchasing water/drinks for the game and the clubhouse had no stock whatsoever. Overall though for a pay and play course 10 times better than Pine Range and fantastic value for money. Highly recommended!

fairways are tight on some holes. Grass needs mowing on the front 9, but the greens are in excellent condition and pretty fast too!! Easily confused come last hole since there's actually 2, one of these is a temp hole in case the 17th get flooded!

This is not a long course but does still provide a challenge to all club golfers. The greens are in fantastic condition throughout the year you would struggle to find much better on a public course. They are a credit to the green keepers.

The course was in good nick, but the design of the holes left little to remember.
The best hole was closed, the 17th. We played it not knowing that the hole was closed.
Well kept greens and bunkers.

Not a bad course for a pay and play, fairways are a bit cut up in places but the greens have been spot on when I've played here. I've yet to experience the drainage problem that Southwood suffers from in wet weather. All in all, not a bad course at all really.

played 21 06 08 course playing superb the greens are some of the best i have putted on i have played merrist wood /oakpark /blue mountain and lately and there greens are not a patch on southwoods though southwoods are a little firm and it is quite hard to stop a ball on them unless you hit a short iron around the greens leaves a lot to be desired they need a bit more attention well worth playing though a little short is quite tight fairways are quite tight enjoy

I played this with cloud for the first 6 Holes, then it lashed it down the rest, nearly gave up on the 10th, but glad I carried on...! Some monster par 4's for the amatuer, and it would be fun to see if you could hit the green in two on a good day!
Very reasonable green fees, and the course looks reasonably well laid out. All in all, a very good council run course.
