What the club says: Penrhos Golf Club is one of those ‘best kept secrets’ – set in the glorious privately owned, landscaped countryside park at Penrhos, our golf course was launched in 1991. It was designed by one of the UK’s leading course architects, David Williams and was commissioned by Penrhos founder and current director of the family owned Park and Golf Club, John Pugh-Evans.

We have an 18 hole championship length course which is widely considered as ‘high quality and challenging’ by most players. It is well groomed, exceptionally well maintained and playable all year-round.
We also have a 9 hole course and a floodlit driving range for those who like to fine tune, hone and practice practice practice.

Really Enjoyable

Played at the end of May with a small society which I organise - all of us thoroughly enjoyed it. Really good course, excellent lay out and some really good, challenging holes. Overall condition was good and the course was pretty quiet when we played - nobody holding us up or pressing. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend if you're in the area.

Overall the course was in good condition, however some of the greens had holes in which was surprising, I would have thought the Green Keeping staff would have fixed them. Facilities are great and the staff are friendly and very helpful. If your not fit then you defiantly need a buggy. The 17th was a great hole to play.

I enjoyed my round at Penrhos. First thing to mention is how tight it is, some holes the fairway is 10 yards wide. Not only that there is water on almost every hole, most notably on the front 9. Often on both sides of the fairway. Most of the major trouble is on the right of the front nine holes, water and often out of bounds with a severe drop down a hillside. Not forgetting that this course is set fairly high up, therefore a great deal of wind to be expected as there was when I played. Back 9 is by no means easy but probably less trouble to worry about and perhaps a few more scoring opportunities. The course finishes with a par 3 of which I haven't seen anything like nor probably will again, it's as downhill as they come, it takes about ten minutes to get to the green. Following this a good finishing hole, par 4 with a tight fairway which is tree lined and a pond again on the right waiting to greet you. Second shot played to a two tiered green.

Advice for playing the course I would say is don't be to quick to get driver out of the bag, club up playing into some strong winds, get a planner and learn where you can miss, if a higher handicapper take lots of balls.

Only real downside is it's not the best kept golf course I have ever played.

This is a great course. the first 4 holes are tough and uphill, also you dont want to go right. Once you climbed between the 4th green and 5th tee you have fairly flatish golf with lovely views of cardigan bay. The 17th par 3 is a cracker (nearly had a hole in one today spun back and hit the flag but just stayed up)
Advise if you think you might need a buggy you will.

Played (badly) on holiday August 2007 on my lonesome. Didn't get to see much of the facilities but the club is part of a privately run hotel and country club and has driving range and bars / restaurants and changing facilities.

The parkland course is in and above a welsh valley and is therefore hilly in places. The first 4 holes wind steeply upwards to the high plateau where the bulk of the holes can be found. The 17th is a 160 yard par 3 with the tee about 160 yards ABOVE the green and nothing much but rock, gorse and bracken in between - fantastic hole though. The 17th takes you back to the valley floor to complete the round.

A good mix of natural hazards plus lakes ponds bunkers and grass. Some open fairways and some very tight - I lost at least 6 balls on this course so make sure you are well stocked. I lost two balls off the tee on the 16th and picked up!

All in all a very nice course and club if a little pricey at £25 a round midweek. I would certainly play again and it is worth playing at least once.
