What the club says: An Open qualifying course, the golf club was founded in 1832. It has an antiquated charm with walls, burns, yawning bunkers and commanding views out to sea and of the Forth estuary. Course designers all over the world have copied many of the testing holes.

Golfing heaven

Memorable, but outrageously overpriced
I played this course a number of times in the late 90’s and 2000’s, and it was always a very enjoyable day, with a quirky seaside course. The increase in fees from £38 a day to £285 for a single round in the last 25 years is nothing short of scandalous, and unjustifiable. There are far better courses out there, and though it does have a certain charm to it, it is now the preserve of the bucket listers only. Shame.Reviewer Rating

Every hole was unique and offered amazing views. The layout was perfect and the greens were true. The course was in fantastic condition, and the ever changing views were something to behold. I was also extremely impressed by the clubhouse facilities, customer service, staff friendliness and professionalism.

Loved the course, the back nine stands out as one of if not the best stretches of golf I have played. Lots of quirky interesting holes that will live long in the memory. Need some improvement in the clubhouse on food and drink but otherwise a great day.

Amazing setting, friendly welcome, course in great condition, superb mix of holes, great views and holes the likes you've probably not experienced before.......can't say enough about how good the overall experience is. This was day 3 of scotland trip.wow this was a beautiful corse, again with stunning views. The fairways as greens were excellent, and the quirky lttle walls you had to play over on some holes were interesting and the little streams and bunkers could catch you out The staff were freindly and helpful(Round played: Jun 2021 - Score: 88 Handicap: 14.4)

Bucket list course. Played on the strength of watching the No Laying Up vlog on You Tube. If you have a vague interest in golf architecture this place is a must. Front nine into the wind is a slog. The back nine with the wall splitting the fairway from the Green on the Pit hole is as quirky as it is marvellous. 15 is the world famous Redan hole. 18 "Home" is a great driveable par 4 to finish. Spectacular views of the beach and Bass Rock just add additional lustre to this fantastic golf course.(Round played: Mar 2019 - Score: 88 Handicap: 13.2)

We played in very difficult conditions which was a shame, sea Haar was covering the course and only abated for about 7 or 8 holes so very misty. Having said that you could see it resembles the old course at St Andrews in many ways with fine fairways great bunkering, which I managed to avoid, don't know how ! We will definitely be returning on a better day!

The club house and staff were excellent and very welcoming. The course has magnificent views as you play along the coast. You can tell thats its an old course with the layout and features being reminiscent of other famous Scottish courses, however the overall course is very flat and doesn't really make the most of the sand dunes. A number of the holes are free land so expect to see a lot of dog walkers which can be a bit disconcerting!

Very welcoming from Malcolm and also the starter. Upon arrival Malcolm showed me where the lounge/bar was located and also where the pro shop and starters hut were located. Instantly relaxed and to make the experience even better, I was paired with a member and his guest. Very enjoyable and scenic.
