Great Salterns Municipal Golf Club
Established for over 70 years, Great Salterns Golf Course is an 'inland links' with a local reputation for its friendly welcome to golfers of all abilities and its excellent greens.
Whilst unlikely to feature on the British Open Golf Championship rota, its par of 69 is a challenge to most players, especially when the coastal winds get up!

First time for twenty years or so that I've played here and it's still much the same. The politest way I can think to describe it is 'no frills' golf. It doesn't offend in any way but doesn't do anything exciting either.
It's probably about the most straight forward course you're ever likely to come across and for that reason has always had a reputation as a good beginners course. That's absolutely fair comment but beginners shouldn't be put off the game by thinking this is as good as it gets.
Still, as the first 'full size' course I ever played many moons ago it still holds a bit of a soft stop.

It has the potential to be a really good coastal course but the lack of care taken in the up keep of the greens is severly letting the course down.

Course is in poor shape, broken ball cleaners, no water in many, rubbish bins filled to capacity, pieces of litter laying around all over the place, greens are in poor shape.

i learned to play golf here a few years ago, i must say the course was awful yesterday, terrible greens as not in the case say 5 yrs ago. but still a fav of mine as i can compare my improvement.

This course is erm.... Ok. Its not a bad course by any stretch of the imagination. They have made the best of the space they have available (which isnt alot). Green fees are very resonable as are buckets for the range. Tea, coffee and soft drinks is via a machine in the Driving range (yuk), There is no hot food so no bacon butties. The pro shop is busy and very well stocked and the staff are friendly (but I'm having my lessons there so may be biased).
Cant comment on the greens as there were all frozen and even closed in 4 cases. The temporaries were aweful. not even cut short just a big hole cut in the ground with a small circle of white paint. Utter shite, complete lack of effort there.
The grub in the pub that the course shares its carpark with has improved since they changed Chef to sombody that can cook.
Will I play it again? Probably, but its not on my "WOW" list. There are better courses for the same or a little bit more money close by.
