Worth Playing

Course is worth a visit if you are local.
Tidy shortish course but quite challenging in places - especially off the tee. Have done some work recently to try and improve some of the holes. The greens were really good and subtle breaks ca be tough to read. Enjoyable course.

Greens are great, good mix of holes.
Both long and short hitters can play without being penalised.
Speed of a round is excellent.

Golfshake Team ReviewNice little par 69 in Cambridgeshire with easy access to the M11/A14.

Course is one of the best during the summer months but may get slightly wet during the winter.

Greens are the highlight, well kept and always run nice a true.

Nice mixture of holes where you shouldn't hit a driver from a tee.

It is tight in places so some may struggle if not under control of your ball.

Weather was good and the course very well maintained. The greens were particularly good and playing very true. Surprisingly the par 3s were shorter than I expected, particularly the 17th at only 120 yds. However still a challenge with the bush to the left of the fairway making the tee shot challenging. The bar area is very welcoming and as my first time here I had an enjoyable round.

Played at Girton last week for the first time in a number of years. The condition of the course was just what you wish to find, Lush fairways, well manicured greens and lots of foliage. I always like playing old courses and this whilst relatively flat (it is East Anglia I suppose) it has a real quality feel about it. I had read it was a short course but actually it means that you have to THINK about your clubs and not take the driver out on every tee which makes a varied round. One of those courses that takes a couple of rounds to really appreciate and you want to go back to - which I will be doing.

Course and the greens in particular in excellent condition. And there were actually people working on the course during our round. Don't see that very often theses days! Probably why the course was in such superb condition. Other courses should learn from this. Bunkers full of sand, not stones as is often the case. £25 for a weekday round is a bit steep but you get what you pay for. sandwiches in the clubhouse afterwards were superb ! A great day and we will play again. Recommended.

Golfshake Team ReviewDont let the lenght of this place make you think its an easy. Its not.

The par 3's are short. However guarded by deep bunkers make the tee shot vital as you can get punished.

There are some sort par 4's. again guarded well with bunkers. There are 2 were the the dog legs are at 90 degree turns so you really have to think.

Its quite an open course with fairways running next to each other with a line of trees to seperate so if you are wayward off the tee you might still have a shot.

Its in great condition. The members here do a real good job of keeping it in good nick and the greens are pretty much perfect. Not a pitch mark in sight.

I'll be back as soon as I can.

Great Fun

I do enjoy a visit back to Girton.

The layout of the course is a friendly one for most abilities, long hitter wont need to hit driver much but there are some tricky holes.

The greens have subtle breaks which are hard to master. A couple of great dog leg holes too.

All round its a great course for any ability.

Thinking course

I love the fact that Girton Golf course is challenging but fair test of golf.

In my opinion its great if you like to think and plot your way around a course as many holes you may want to think about club choice off the tee. Driver is not always the best option with dog legs, ditches and bunker all over.

The condition is great, green run really well and so true, being in Cambridgeshire that aren't that many that have tough breaks, more subtle.

They have done some work on the course in more recent years - moving bunkers and adding a pond on the long par 3 12th, this only add to the experience.

Great track and well worth a visit.

The course played well in windy conditions, The greens were true and held their line. A lot of work has gone into the course over the winter and the improvements are working. An enjoyable round of golf which I would recommend to other golfers

Golfshake Team ReviewA short, tight course which is in good condition. The greens were consistent and the fairways were in good condition. There are good practice facilities and both the staff and members were friendly. I would play there again.

Disappointed

We played at Girton yesterday and the most positive thing we can say was how lovely the lady in the pro shop was. She gave us fluorescent bands to put on our bags, which we did at the front so they were visible to all. We found the course very repetitive & boring as only a couple of water holes to challenge you. At the 15th, we were approaching the green and a buggy came very quickly towards us, no etiquette at all. The two occupants were very abrupt in advising us they were doing a membership check (clearly somebody had reported two unknown players on the course), they could clearly see the fluorescent tags, when we explained we were visitors they didn’t say welcome, we hope you enjoy playing just drove off. That ruined the rest of my game and when we came off the course about 5.35 clubhouse all locked, no toilets to use or hand washing facilities as wasn’t advised locker room number. Same couple who checked the membership sat on the patio waiting for us to go. If our home club treated guests like this I would be mortified.
