Finchley Golf Club
Finchley is set in the grounds of an imposing Victorian stately home that has served as the clubhouse for more than 70 years. The panorama below shows the view from the Veranda of the clubhouse, where you can relax and enjoy a drink and some food after your round while watching the action on the 12th, 13th and 18th holes.
The 6,356 yard, par 72 wooded, picturesque, parkland course is recognised as the finest challenge of golf in London. Designed by five-times Open winner James Braid, his short, uphill 12th hole, "Braid's Masterpiece", is one of the best know par threes in the south of England.

Location
Location: By Tube Take Northern Line to Mill Hill East. From there you can walk to the club in five minutes. Take the shortcut through the industrial estate opposite the tube station which brings you out on Frith Lane. Turn left and then walk a few hundred yards up the road to the club. By Road: From South. Take A41 Northwards to Finchley Road, stay on the Finchley Road now A598 through Golders Green to North Circular Road (A406). Turn left, then fork right at Traffic Lights onto A1. At 2nd traffic lights turn right into Holders Hill Road (B552). Follow to large roundabout and take 2nd exit by shops before an immediate turn right at mini roundabout into Frith Lane. Under railway bridge and entrance is 400yds on right. From the North (M1) Leave M1 at Junction 2. First set of Traffic Lights turn left into Holders Hill Road (B552) then as above. From the North (A1/A41) After Mill Hill Roundabout 1 mile South until M1 overhead slip road appears. Take left fork (A1) alongside M1 slip road to first set of Traffic lights. Turn left into Holders Hill Road (B552) then as above. From East or City (A406 - N. Circular Road or A1 - Great North Road) Follow A406 or A1 to where they meet then straight over traffic lights (Jnc A598) and immediate fork right onto A1. At 2nd traffic lights turn right into Holders Hill Road (B552) then as above. From North East (North Finchley) From Tally Ho corner take A598, Ballards Lane. After Supermarket 100 yards, turn right into Alexandra Grove. Straight on at Crossroads under railway bridge and at mini roundabout then follow road for ¾ mile. Entrance to club on left. From West (A406 - N. Circular Road) After Brent Cross Shopping Centre onwards to just before 2nd traffic lights then turn sharp left onto A1. At 2nd traffic lights turn right into Holders Hill Road (B552) then as above.

Have played there a few times this year. The course itself is very good though the greens were not in a great condition, with varied holes & terrain especially the 12th par3, tests your nerve. The clubhouse is beautiful externally but needs updating on the inside. Barfood was average. Members are pleasant & friendly. Paid £20 midweek with a member in early Nov 08.
