Classy, sums it up just right I think.

We had a group of 12 playing, and as the organiser of our day out, I was greeted as soon as I entered the clubhouse by a very charming and helpful man named Sebastian who showed us to our reserved tables in the beautifully decorated dining area, which has views out over the course through huge, ceiling high, windows. What a way to start the day! Sebastian ensured our food arrived promptly and that we had everything we needed for our day on the course. It's not something that you will find at most golf courses and all 12 of us were thoroughly impressed. (Thanks Seb!)

I checked the group in at the well-stocked pro-shop with the head pro Steve, who again was a very genuine, helpful guy. He even let one of our group take out and test a demo driver, which was a nice gesture.

The course itself is made up of 3 nine's, of which we only played 18, the blue and yellow 9. (I will be back to try the Red 9 very soon). The yellow nine is the shorter of the two, but requires good course management as bunkers and ditches are strategically placed on many of the holes. There is also quite a bit of elevation change to keep things interesting. The blue nine was slightly longer and flatter, and you could hit driver nearly every hole, but you had to be accurate, as anything astray would land you in trouble. This is how a good golf course should be, good risk/reward. If you don't want to take driver, the holes play longer, but are very accessible with long irons as nearly all greens have a nice open front. Do not be fooled though, it is easier said than done! Overall I preferred the Blue 9, but others in our group preferred the Yellow, they are both great.

With regards to condition of the course, the greens were superb. Some of the best greens I have played on in this country for a long while. They just rolled so true, and were fast, but not stupidly fast. I think the green keeper has done a great job. The fairways and tee boxes were immaculate, the few bunkers I went in had plenty of sand in them and you can tell they are maintained to a high standard, no rough edges and not a stone in sight. The rough is thick, very thick in places, and I can see the frustration of some other reviewers as I lost a ball or two that I thought I would find, so maybe this is the only negative about the course, but it is a small one in the scheme of things.

After the round we went to the very modern clubhouse to enjoy some refreshments from the bar and had food on the patio outside. Everybody in our group enjoyed the food, compliments to the chef on that part. We didn't have too much time to stay but the clubhouse also boasts a pool table and a golf simulator, which would be great fun to use, maybe next time.

Overall, this is a truly classy establishment, a million miles away from the snooty, old school golf clubs that look down their nose at you if you are not a member, and it is so refreshing to experience that in the UK, especially in London.

You've got to try it out!

Great for time of year

Considering the recent weather conditions, they have kept the course in very good condition, greens are surprisingly good and the land drains well. The lack of long grass in the rough during the winter makes it much easier to find balls (not that I ever go in the rough you understand!)

Enjoyable course

Second time playing at Farleigh (last time 5 years ago). Great weather and a fairly forgiving course off the tee. Fairways are generally pretty wide but if you miss them the rough is brutal. Great collection of par 3 holes, in good condition given the recent weather. Quite hilly with plenty of elevation changes. Very playable for all standards.

Brilliant

Well, to be fair, I played with a great bunch of guys, hit a hole in one after 52 years waiting and scored more points than ever in my life before, so what's not to like! But more practically, the course is very open, plenty of space on the fairways, but the rough is mostly long grass, so you don't want to go in there. Not much water, plenty of bunkers to trap the unwary, greens in good condition. Quite a long undulating course. Currently very dry (isn't everywhere?) I suspect it looks much better when everything's green.

First time playing here in a while. On a society day and played the Orange course (Red/Yellow 9's). Course in great condition and society were very well looked after by the club. Food both before and after was nice and good service in the bar. Bunkers pretty consistant which made a nice change from other places I've played recently. Greens were absolutely rapid, especially anything downhill. Look forward to heading back in the near future.

Apart from bunkers course was very playable

Played this during the tailend of the rainy season. And the course was surprisingly in good nick. Must have good drainage!! Managed to play the Yellow and Blue 9 holes which are completely different in layout. Usually play Blue and Red and these two are fairly similar.

Greens

What’s happened to the greens. I noted a few months ago they have been made smaller and now they have deteriorated into quite average condition. The greens here use to be this courses best asset.

Good as always

Playing on society day and we were well looked after over the day. Have played here many times before and course in decent condition as usual. Played the 'green' course (blue and yellow 9's). Both are interesting and give you cause to think as you go round. Greens were very good. Always look forward to playing here.

3 Loops of 9 giving great combination of 18 holes that is challenging particularly when windy off the Whites!

Great course with superb members. Greens are excellent and holes well defined by rough. Really rivals the London Club, without the price tag.

We have an annual "Mums and Sons " game, and the venue had alot of boxes to tick.....
Close to good London rail link so the sons could get back.
Golf that was challenging without being stupid,as not everyone is a regular golfer.
Good food.
Attractive, welcoming clubhouse and pro shop.

Farleigh came up trumps on all counts.... and threw in a sunny day into the bargain. we all had a great day, lost a few balls (found a few too) ... we played the yellow and red courses.. the greens were perfect. The bacon rolls, and bottomless coffee, were fantastic, and the roast at the end of the round was just what was needed.
There were plenty of staff around who were attentive without being annoying.
