course was under water !!
The Roman road course is one of my favourites and as we were booked to stay at Coldra court we thought we should play despite the fact it had been very bad weather, they did say to us that if we anted to stop after 3 holes we would get a voucher, however we soldiered on but was pretty much unplayable on the fairways, spoke to some green keepers on the 12th and they were at wits end to know why the course was open, which was also our thoughts,, stopped on the 14th as we were all plastered in red mud !!Reviewer Rating

Wet, wet, wet
Appreciate the weather has been bad but the course was in poor condition. I would say the fairways had not been cut for 2 Weeks, in fact you couldn't even make out where they once were!Have said this was always a good little course for the money but now other places such as Tall Pines down the road are offering 18 holes for as little as ?16 it's difficult to make an argument that ?13 for 9 holes here is good value.

Over rated and over priced!
Ever so disappointed with this venue. Very poor customer service - has a long way to go to claim 5 star rating ....Reviewer Rating

2010 poor condition, Roman Round better
Played 2010 and Roman Road.2010 first. Fairways were in a poor condition & soggy. If you hit the fairway then your ball was likely to be plugged and difficult to find, if you missed the fairway then impossible to find! Aiming for the sand was your best option. Too many water features too. Never lost so many balls in one round.
Roman Road was better and a fairer challenge.
Anyway it’s ticked an ambition of the list but disappointed in the condition of the courses.

Was really looking forward to the expereince of playing the Ryder cup venue, and arriving at the facility I felt like it was going to be a secial day. the welcome at te club house is great, the changing rooms with all the previous winners names and the ryder cup teams was great to see, it felt historic! Your clubs are shipped down to the course, and waiting for you at te range. the range is great, its open and you can hit off the grass. theres a chipping green with well maintained bunkers and a huge putting green. theres a photographer at the first tee who took a pic of the group and one of each of us mid flow through our tee shot.I was over the moon with my highly anticipated tee shot... split the fairway with a sgood a shot as I could hit... then I fell out with the place. My ball disappeared. the first of 6 that I lost in themiddle of the fairway, the ball just lodged in the turf and disappeeared under ground. It became a real slog... 6 hours through mud. the buggies were only allowed on the path for good reason but it meant that you had to walk ages to your ball (if you could find it).
Its a stunning venue, the scenery is spectacular and some of the holes are beautiful and the challenge would be tough but fair, were it not for the fact its buolt ona river bed! Its very long for an average player. This place feel like a premium golfing experience until you ste foot on the course. Our round at the end of April will not be the last one to play in these conditions, as it will take weeks if not monts to recover. A sunny day at the end f August would present a very different experience but I would not recommened anyone playing this unless they know its been dry for a good few weeks. Not a lot of fun Im afraid.
Played the montgomery course the nex day (5 hours+), a much more interesting little course, but again unplayable in these conditions.
I understand that they cant cancel everyone but some sort of offering or acknowledgement of the awful condition would have gone a long way... a few sleeves of balls would have been nice!

Does not live up to expectation
Admittedly it was very wet underfoot / almost waterlogged which didnt help the experience. But overall a disappointing course given the cost of the green fee. There are many many courses better than this for the price, id save your money unless you are desperate to play a ryder cup course! And they try and take money off you at every opportunity, even parking!Reviewer Rating

12 of us went to the Celtic Manor mid February. We stayed at Coldra Court which was excellent. Nice rooms, great food, very welcoming, etc. It's a shame the same can't be said for the golf courses. We played the Roman Road the first day and didn't feel particular welcomed on arrival or at the driving range and the course was in poor condition overall. Yes I know its February and the fairways arent going to be great, but the greens were appallingly slow and inconsistent. The air compressors didn't work outside the changing rooms either.
Overall 4 out of 10.
Fear not we thought, we're playing the hallowed 2010 tomorrow.....
A great night was had by all in the evening at Coldra Court and couldn't fault it. 10 out of 10.
As for the 2010, maybe my expectations were too high.
Again a poor welcome when entering the club house. We had to find our own way around.
The course itself, general unkempt (yes I know its February) but still looks like a lack of care being taken. Genuinely awful greens with many looking like moss and ridiculously slow.
Again could be my expectation but it certainly didn't "feel" special or were our group made to "feel" special. Service in the bar was adequate but no more.
Again air compressors not working to clean all of the mud off.
Overall was super excited to both goto and play at the Celtic Manor and was left disappointed.

WET !
Just got back from a one night stay with 2 rounds of golf. We played the 2010 on the Saturday and the Roman road on the Sunday(only managed 9 holes) In my opinion both courses should be closed at the moment probably the worst conditions I've played in spoilt what could of been a good weekend, whilst I know it's winter golf the course should a least be playable ....... Trust me avoid if it's been wet !Reviewer Rating

Not as good as it has been.
Good course but poorly maintained. Greens full of bobbles and tee boxes were bare in places. Bunker sand varied massively. Not good enough for a resort with this pedigree. Last few holes now don’t really work as displaced by car parks and archery centre. Feels like golf is less of an investment priority now.Reviewer Rating
