Castle Barna Golf Club
The idyllic Castle Barna Golf Club in County Offaly is one of Ireland's hidden gems, set on some of the most beautiful countryside in the Heart of Ireland. Open for membership greenfees and societies.
Only an hour from Dublin Airport via the N6, it is ideally located for groups travelling west.
Nestled along the banks of the Grand Canal on it's route from Dublin to the Shannon, Castle Barna Golf club is on the edge of Daingean town, a town steeped in history and beauty. On arrival the beautiful stonework of the clubhouse gives a hint of the excellent quality of the club.
The greens are immaculately manicured and whether you are a high or low handicap golfer you will seldom make the same putt twice. The fairways are always in mint condition. The course is interspersed with many trees, some of which are hundreds of years old.
The 9th hole is a real beauty along side the Canal. The Green is protected by trees on two sides and the Grand Canal on the other, a real pressure hole. Contact Information

Location: Directions from Dublin: Take the M4 Galway and Sligo motorway as far as Kinnegad. Take the M6 for Galway and exite at Junction 3 for Rochfortbridge. Turn left at roundabout for Rhode travelling approx. 8 km. Pass straight through Rhode village and travel 5 km to the Tee-Junction. Turn right for Daingean. Travel three miles. You will see the Canal Bridge straight ahead. Turn right at Quinn's shop towards the bridge and turn right again immediately after the Bridge. Follow this road a short distance to Castle Barna Golf Club. The Golf Course is on the banks of the Canal. Sat nav North 53.17.908 West 7.16.47.7

We played this course in September this year (2007) as part of our annual golf tour. We decided to go to the heart of Ireland and this was our 3rd course. Overall the course was in good condition and there were some nice holes to play in particular the short par 3 9th, the entrance road to the clubhouse on the left, a canal on the right and some mature trees around the undulating green made for an interesting prospect from the tee box! The welcome and hospitality at the club was excellent and we've never been looked after so well - the staff were fantastic.
