We had previously visited Burnham and had a pleasant day out but were sadly disappointed when I returned in 2014. The clubhouse is now very dated and not in a pleasant ironic way, the Pro's shop was sad, the locker room dirty and the staff disinterested, we did not eat there !

On the plus side the course was up to its usual high standard with excellent greens. Particularly liked the second and fifteenth, lovely rolling classic links holes but the fourth and eight do not cut it as par fives by championship standards, easy to reach in two for an average golfer unless the wind is blowing. This is an above average course but not a true championship course.

We will not be going back, Saunton offers a much better experience, is only an hours drive further on and all things considered offers far better value for money.

Frankly the hardest and most testing game of golf i've ever played and I've played some of the best links in the UK....

The fairways are in places 10-15 yards wide and the penalty for missing them is often strict, the greens are fast and tough to hold and when we played the wind blew at times up to 30mph. We were fighting for life at one point, the course definately beat us.

But a what a beautiful way to go, it's a true test of your game and well worth a visit!

I visited Burnham & Berrow this week.

The course was in superb condition with greens as quick and as true as most clubs could hope to achieve in the middle of summer for their club championships or other prestigious competition.

Burnham and Berrow isn't an easy course. If you are a higher handicap (say, 18+) you will probably struggle to score well but just go and enjoy this fantastic links course.

The par 3's are exceptional. For my money possibly the very best collection of par 3's you will find on any single course.

The clubhouse is very traditional but firendly and comfortable. They have a good menu and the hot chocolate is to die for!

Easy to see why they have been selected to host two major championships this year: The Brabazon Trophy and the British Boys Championship,

Smashing Course. A truely terrific links course. Tough as hell. Played 3 times over 3 days and each time the course changed due to slight changes in the weather. Good facilities and friendly staff. I would play again without doubt if I was in the area again. Only downside was the lack of yardage books. Playing this course blind for the first time will be punishing. This is was all links courses should aspire to be like.

Beyond doubt this is one of the south west's gems, and a true test of golf. A genuine links course, the course is almost always playable even in the worst of winter with greens to die for!
One little known feature of this club is that whilst the main 18 can be difficult to get on, running parallel is a quite superb 9 hole course, definitely NOT a pitch and putt which always welcomes visitors, this too is well worth a visit

Classic

No wonder this course appears in top 100 lists. Fantastic experience all round. We were lucky to have a deal, could appear expensive otherwise. But one to tick off the bucket list.

Great links course

Played this into a strong wind which made it a real test of golf even for a 10 handicap. You need good course management to keep yourself out of trouble. If you stray off course the rough will punish and balls can be difficult to find. There are a number of blind shots, so taking a look online or walking the course definitely is a good use of time. Course was in immaculate conditions and the greens where fast but true. Expensive but worth a visit and will definitely be back.

High Ranking Deserved

Although I’ve played many courses, I’m not used to links golf but have enjoyed this new experience on a tour of the West Country.
You need to be on your game here as any mis-hit drives are likely to find places you wouldn’t want to go to, but most fairways are quite wide. I was somehow able to finish my round with the ball I started with!
The lightning fast, undulating greens could make anyone look daft, although some pins were in ‘friendly’ positions where my ball finished close.
Many picturesque bunkers - as long as you’re not in them - but the sand is perfect, so you have a chance.
Very friendly pro, starter, members and even a greenkeeper who watched my ball for me as I played over an enormous sand dune!
B & B deserves its high ranking and rave reviews.... it’s a very special place to play golf.

I've wanted to play the course for sometime and it was worth the wait. Beautifully presented with excellent quick greens there isn't a weak hole. Staff very pleasant and accommodating and a comfortable clubhouse. Played in a north easterly breeze which doesn't occur too often. Back 9 would be a beast in a stiff westerly. Score 86 Handicap 16

What a fantastic course. Members and staff were very friendly and helpful adding to a great morning of golf. The course itself is in excellent condition, although the greens played a little slower than expected. The course is picture perfect and each hole presents it's own challenges. We were fortunate with benign conditions on the first 9, however it become a much sterner test on the homeward stretch, with every hole seeming to be into the wind. I would love to come back soon. I wish I was a member!

A great day out to be enjoyed by all. The challenging Channel course is a real test and is not to be laughed at. But the Championship course is a fantastic course to play, the undulating fairways which are tight and are a test to maintain with the wind coming off the sea makes sensible play a must. The bunkers are cavenous so enter them at your peril. The greens roll true and fast even right at the start of the season to the credit of the club. Change is coming and the club are looking to update and improve. The clubhouse has a certain character which some may find dated but adds to the charm of the whole place. The food is delicious and extremely fairly priced, recommended to all as a must play, but not for the faint hearted, it is tough course but a pleasure
