Always a good pleasure to play on this course. A Great little 9 hole good to use on your short game, a few holes are par 4 and if your good you could drive it as long as the wind isn't blowing. Overall a good course, will go back again, could do with a bit of tidying up on the greens but i think that was the weather and time of the year(Feb)

Clubhouse is well build and very informal. Outgoing and happy staff willing to help and serve whenever needed.
Course is OK, tee's are quite damaged but due to small tee area's theres no place for secondary tee's to repair the primary set so it can sometimes be a chore to find a nice sturdy setup on the rough ground.
Fairways are in good nick apart from the odd divot.
Greens certainly need some work, some patches are grassless so you can see the soil/sand the greens are on however this has improved in the last 3 months compared to when i first played here.
Value for money is fair, compared to somewhere like willow valley which has a pretty much equal price during the week (50p more) and an increased rate at the weekend (2£ more). This is mainly due to the fact of the greens. You can really see the difference from somewhere like willow valley to acanthus but im sure the greens will come in time.

at the start of the year this course was terrible even for a complete novice like myself. However they have started to improve, the bunkers are now weed free, the fairways are a lot better and even the moss covered greens are slowly improving. Hopefully some proper treatment over the winter will help even more. Short but tight course will certainly make you work on your short game and accuracy. Clubhouse and range excellent

This course is in shocking condition and i wouldn't even call it a course, more like a pitch and putt. The course is littered with weeds, daisys, dandilions etc, its a struggle to find your ball even on the fairways. The rough is more like a jungle, the grass is upto your knee's so take plenty of balls. It's a real shame as this course would be brilliant for improving your short game, as it has only 3 par 4 holes...which are all under 280 yrds... so leave your drivers at home. The clubhouse and driving range are fantastic, but the course is shocking, its a real put off ever going back here.

Played the course for the first time today and will not be returning! Short, tight and narrow, its hard to tell where one fairway is and the next starts!
The cut was too long, the fairway was like being in light rough and anything other than straight down the middle and the rough is past your ankles.
The clubhouse and driving range are excellent though. Good valur at £4 for 80 balls. Range has power tees as well, so its worth a visit just for this.
In summary...for £13 for 18 holes there are a lot better out there. Try Lupset.

The Acanthus (previously known as Shirley Wood) is an interesting course. It is in fairy poor condition at the moment, particularly the greens. It has the potential to become a superb beginners course, with the reasonably wide fariways and banked edges. It is also quiet, which can be an advantage for beginners. The clubhouse is excellent and has recently opened (September 2007), with a good pro shop and cafe area along with a restaurant.
There is a two-tier driving range, although there is a ban on using drivers on the top tier at the time of writing (December 2007).
Green fee's are around £13 for 19 holes and £9 for 9 holes. There are winter reductions in place at the moment as every hole has winter greensin operation.
