North vs South Golfshake.comThe Golfshake.com North vs South event is a annual event in matchplay format against teams from the North and the South.  For further information on previous events visit the North vs South history page.

Team Affiliation

There is no hard or fast rule on which team you should play for and many topics have been discussed over the years on the dividing line but the simple rule is to play for the team where your heart resides.

Team colors of White/Red for the North [not enforced]

Team colors of Blue/Black for the South [not enforced]

Matchplay Format

Fourball matchplay competition off 3/4 handicaps between teams from the North and the South, see below for further information.

A four-ball (Rules 30 and 31) is also played between two teams of two players each, but every player plays his own ball and for each team, the lower score on each hole is counted. Four-balls can be played as match play or stroke play.

Matchplay Handicap Allocation

  • A four ball group will consist of 2 players from the North and 2 players from the South
     
  • Each group will play in a fourball matchplay format A four-ball (Rules 30 and 31) is also played between two teams of two players each, but every player plays his own ball and for each team, the lower score on each hole is counted
     
  • Handicaps for matchplay will be off adjusted 3/4 handicaps
    • The low handicapper in the group will play off scratch
    • The low handicap will be adjusted from all other group members to provide an adjusted handicap
    • 3/4 handicaps will then be used from the adjusted handicaps

 

  • For example Group 1 consists of the following :
    • Player 1 - Handicap 12
    • Player 2 - Handicap 24
    • Player 3 - Handicap 24
    • Player 4 - Handicap 18
       
  • All handicaps are adjusted by 12 so that player 1 is effectively playing off scratch
  • The remaing handicaps being; 12,12,6 then get reduced by 3/4 to :
    • Player 1 - Handicap 0
    • Player 2 - Handicap 9
    • Player 3 - Handicap 9
    • Player 4 - Handicap 5

Golfshake.com Competition and Event Rules

Local course rules apply as detailed on course cards

Handicaps:

Maximum 28 and 36 for Men and Women respectively.
Golfshake.com handicaps will be used where tracked
Alterations for handicaps will be based on a valid handicap certificates provided from members clubs
Where a golfshake.com handicap is not available then a valid handicap certificate or copies of last 3 score cards will be required

Playing partners and scoring :

Players must have their cards marked by another player in the group
The marker must not be known to the player

Honesty and FairPlay :

Golfshake.com will accept the golfshake.com handicap or certificate on the day as a true and valid handicap
Any abnormal scores will be investigated thoroughly
Should golfshake.com consider that a player has not played in accordance to the rules then he/she will be disqualified

Golfshake.com reserve the right to override any rules and decide the outcome of any disputes.

The above rules are subject to change but all competitors will receive advance notification before the competition day.
