Green Vandalised at Golf Club of Houston

By: Golfshake Editor | Thu 19 May 2016

It was reported earlier this week on the Golf Channel that the Golf Club of Houston - host venue of the PGA Tour's annual Shell Houston Open - was vandalised by joyriders, who drove onto the 14th green and caused significant damage.

This is a repeat of events in January, when the 16th green was desecrated in a similar manner.

The club confirmed the news on Facebook, stating: "(On Sunday) at around 7:30 p.m. some young white males decided to take a joyride on No. 14 green at Golf Club of Houston. To those of us that play golf, understand how terrible this is for a golf course and especially to our superintendent and his team. They work so hard. They were two young white males, there were two ATVs...this is not a SMALL ATV."

Many in the UK will not the similarity between this vandalism and that inflicted on Notts Club Golf in England at the turn of the year, with the Hollinwell course being targated on two occasions by individuals on motorbikes. It sadly appears to be growing into a widespread problem, with clubs having to consider measures to protect the facilities that are carefully prepared for their members and guests by the hard-working staff.
